Cheap steelies?

I currently have the fugly 5lugger wheel/tire combo. On the stock wheels I can only mount 30x9.5x15 tire. I would like to get 31x10.5x15 tire or 33x10.5x15 tire. I am still undecided if I want to cut the stock bumper or play with the welder and fab up a front bumper.

I have looked at tirerack.com and discounttire.com and I couldn't find steelies on their sites. All I want is set of 15" steelies on which I can mount 10.5 wide tire. Ideally I would like black steelies, but if they are different color and cheap I can always paint them.

Can anybody point me towards some cheap steelies?

 

IF you really want to go with steelies there are always cragar soft 8s. I had them on my heep for a while because the heep was cheap. i would never put them on a taco tho. you will be much happier if you save up and get some alloys.

 

Why is that?

Honestly, I don't think there will be much difference between alloys and steelies... I am on a very tight budget, so spending $100-$150/wheel is just not an option, however the Cragar wheels are $42/piece so that is very doable...

 

i have the stock rims on my truck and im running 31x10.50x15 with no rubbing at all and i was gonna move up to 33s but i kinda chickened out cuz of power and gas mileage and rubbing. but umm check wheelers for some steelies

Your truck is 6lug... The stock rims for 5lug & 6lug Taco's are different...

I like the pro-comp's they look pretty bad!

 

x2 on the soft 8's for a 5 lug... look great and are inexpensive....

 

pro comp makes *lots* of sizes in their steelies, and they're pretty affordable.

 

Kinda jsut my personal opinion....i mean if you aint got the cash you aint got the cash, but steelies will get scatched up like paint and look dull then after a while they will rust, but you can always paint them. I jsut think alloys are lighter, stronger, more durable, and and look better but once again thats my $.2 i had steelies on my jeep and they did great while i had them, other than the fading and scatching


EDIT: If cragars are still a tad out the budget, look into pacers. I got mine for about 30 bucks a piece

 

Its a truck, it will see abuse. I am not worried about scratches or rust... Hell I live in AZ. My truck will most likely never see snow...

Hrm... what width wheel do i need to be able to mount 33x10.5x15? 7.5" or 8" or 8.5" wheel?

 

i know for a fact that 15x8 will hold 33s....youll prolly need 4 inch backspacing as well. just make shur its gonna clear your brakes

 

I have the soft 8s on my truck. Mine are 16x8 with 4.5 backspacing but I have spidertrax spacers. The wheels costed me 330 shipped from summit racing and that also included the center caps.

 

Pardon my newbishness, but what is backspacing?

The stock wheels are 15" so I don't see why 15"x8 steelies shouldn't clear the brakes.

 

back spacing is the distance from the mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel.

 

what makes you say alloys are stronger/ more duarable than steelies?

As far as I know in terms of strength steel is far superior by far compared to alloy...

 

just kinda my personal opinion with what i have seen. mostly the durability issue but if it dont bother you go ahead.

 

I'm just not aware if "the durability" issue. I've had both fail. The steelie was fixable. The alloy was shot.

 

either way, i highly doubt your gonna damage any wheel like that, so get what you can afford. i was just stating how i feel about steels verses the other types of wheels.

x2... last year, prerunning from Primm, NV to Barstow, CA i hit a 2 foot wide rock at about 50mph... my steel wheel got dented but lost no bead... we were able to continue the run... the next day, we took a mallet to the rim and pounded it back in place...

an alloy wouldn't have faired so well...
