Cannot get wheels to balance

I have 2nd gen wheels on my 1st gen, is there any reason why they shouldn't be able to balance them correctly? I've tried now 4 times at three different discount tires??!!

what kind of tires do you have? You also might have a bent rim.

Yokohama Geolandar HT/S the rims, they said are all true? Just can't find someone who knows how to work the machine. I might try the dealer, but at $15 per tire it's spendy.

thats weird. Maybe post up in your area asking where a good tire shop is. I've had good luck with discount tire.

Do you know if they are using the hawkeye adapter (the thing with 6 studs to attach the wheel to the balancer) or a cone set up? Those wheels are touchy since the hub bore and the part the center caps snap into are so close.

Are they balancing the tire with weights on both sides of the wheel or only on one side?

Do the wheels fit on the hub of the truck exactly or is there space in there between the wheel and truck?

Only putting tape weights and weights on the inside edge of the wheel. To make things even better, they also lost my retainer clip for my FJ center cap!! Only one of the stores I went to got it good, but then a weight fell off on the way home 20+ miles away, and it was right as they closed. I tell then to use the adaptor, and I know at least twice they have, I watched them, and that seems to help alot, but for the most part they don't think I know what I'm talking about. I've tried to find a discount that does road force, but they look at me like I'm stupid, and the only one I found that does have one, it is broken.

Well I feel your pain, I just went and got my pass front tire re balenced today because it felt like I was going to die at 65 mph the vibes were so bad. Now that wheel has A LOT of weight on it so we'll see if it helped any when I drive 90 miles back to school on sunday. I think my problem is the tires though, they are BLEM's.

I am thinking a couple of things. On the wheel side, I did the same thing with the weights on the back side with weights you hammer on and for the front side they are on the stick on weights on the inside of the wheel. Same way the shinny chrome/blingy wheels with out a rim lip for hammer weights to attach to are done. I had a little shimmer at 50mph, but I rotated the tires and smoothed out the powdercoat on the hub bore and it went away. Tires and wheels ride fine now. So I don't think where the weights are being put on your wheels could be the problem, since I did mine that way.

The other thing I am thinking is the 2nd gen wheels on a 1st gen truck. Did you original wheels use the acorn style lug nut or the same style those wheels use? I am thinking the wheels might not be getting centered on your hubs. I haven't seen a 1st gen hub or wheels up close to know if they are different.

If that one store got the balance done good but the weights fell off, I would try to go back and get the same guy to do them again, but clean the inside of the wheel off and put duct tape over the weights after sticking them on the wheel.

Thanks for the pointers. I get the vibes at 60-70 miles an hour, so I'll try that discount again, and put the tape on there. If they can't get it, I guess I'll have to just sell the wheels, I have two sets of the 2nd gen too

i work at my local discount tire we always have problems with toyota truck wheels so our manager bought the store a set of fingers and you cone the wheel from behind so it sits on the balancer like is it was bolted on which helps out alot and if you want the best balance you'd have to go double clip where you put a clip weight on the outside lip and another on the inside lip and the amount of psi could cause vibration aswell i run 30 psi in all four and i used double clip when i had stock wheels heres a pick of five lug fingers

Well I had the same exact problem with the same exact tires. I had them balanced it seemed like a thousand times and never could get them balanced out. I am almost 100% sure that it was not a rim issue. So my conclusion was one or more tires that were horribly out of round.
