right now on my truck i have moto metal 955's that have a -12 off set and 4.5 inch backspacing. i need to have 4.5 inch backspacing because of my lift. i am looking for some winter wheels and im looking into the atx mojave and they have the same back spacing but instead of a -11 off set they have a 00 off set. so what i am wondering is what will the difference be? and really what the hell does off set mean?
    thanks

Off set is the difference between the the hub mounting surface and the center line of the wheel, the back spacing is the dsitance from the hub mounting surface and the inner bead (0n the outside not the actual tire seat).

    o offset with a 4.5 bs is a true 4.5 bs. a 4.5 bs with -12mm offset is 5 bs IIRC

Backspacing is calculated by using offset and rim width. If the two wheels you are looking at have the same backspacing, but a different offset, then by definition the wheels are not the same width. Check this chart (1/3rd down the page) to double check that both you are looking at are 4.5" BS.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

Backspacing is backspacing regardless of offset. 4.5 BS is 4.5 BS no matter what the offset is.
