Pro Comp 1089- Anybody seen these on a Taco?

I like the looks of these wheels on the website. But of course they could look completely different on the truck. Anybody seen them? They're pro comp Xtreme Alloys Series 1089 Polished Finish.

 

Does anybody have polished aluminum on their trucks? I've heard they're more maintenance and I'm wondering if they're worth the trouble.

 

I've had polished aluminum on a couple sports cars that I've had. That being said, they were driven on pavement only. The wheels were a PITA to keep clean. I can imagine how bad they would be on a truck if you wheel and what not.

 

I don't do any off roading at all. You guys are painting a pretty ugly picture about polished aluminum. Might have to re-think this.

 

I have pro comp 1069's (polished).

I spent about 45 min-1 hour on each wheel (by hand) to make them look 'better'. To make them look new again, would have doubled the time.

They are a bitch to keep shiny'ish. I would rather deal with cleaning them though, than worry about chrome rusting. Plus I totally hate chrome wheels. Everytime I see chrome, unless it's on a old muscle car, I want to puke. SUV's, mini vans, riced out Hondas, lowriders, Ford Pinto's. Enough with the damn chrome bling bling hip hop rap crap look already!

In all fairness I had neglected cleaning the wheels for at least a year and the shit was like etched into the wheel. Lots of elbow grease and time works. A Mothesr power ball might speed things up but it required more force than you could put on their buffing wheel gizmo.

 

I understand your feelings about chrome and I share them to a point. I think it's the style of wheel that makes a chrome wheel look ghetto. But I've had chrome wheels that have pitted and it ruined them. I wouldn't mind the same style in chrome but these are much more affordable, and from the sound of it durable. Just sounds like a bitch to take care of them.

 

Get them clear coated before you install them

 

That's not a bad idea. Is that something I can do myself rattle canned? Or does something like that need to be done professionally?

 

I'd get it done by a pro. It cant be too much $$ if there tires arent mounted yet. They would look sweet! and be easy to keep clean.

 

Yeah, I just called this one place and they can clear powder coat them but that's tacking on like an additional $50/wheel. I'll have to shop it around I guess but it's a good thought to consider.

Oh you're the man! That's what I've been looking for. Mine's black but this isn't a perfect world is it? I appreciate the pics. I'm seriously thinking about these wheels, especially if I can find an affordable sealant to help me maintain them.

 

At first I didn't like them in the picture you gave, but you were right they look completely different on the truck. I like them on a 2nd gen. taco.

 

See I like them in the picture, but sometimes once you see them on the truck you wonder what you were thinking. I think they look good in both. And for $400 shipped, it's a great deal.

 

I'd go aluminum over chrome. Chrome pits and then the steel below rusts and they look like hell. I haven't had an issue keeping aluminum clean. If you spend the time a couple times a year to polish them up nice, then washing between those times usually clean them up well. Just my $0.02.

 

Thanks, I appreciate your input. My Dad said the same thing. He deals with polished aluminum on his semis and he likes aluminum over chrome too. But I've only had experience with chrome. Somebody mentioned powder coating the wheels to eliminate the oxidation but the cost of that no longer makes the wheels a good deal. I think if I get them I'll just put on some PoBoy's sealant or something similar and, like you said, take care of them a couple times a year.
