Considering Nitto TG's......

Hi there! Ive been rethinking my tire decision and my first choice was the Duratracs bc I go up to the mountain to snowboard. But money is tight and Ive been looking at the TG reviews, and it says they do pretty well in the snow?
Anyone want to give some appinions about this, it would really help me out. Thanks!

Also If I do go with the TG's in a 295, how bad will I rub? Im ganna be getting the XD Addicts and running a 3" lift.

Yeah, I think I should be ok. I dont do alot of snow driving but I want something that will do well when I do hit the white stuff, so Im hoping the TG's wil do better then my BFG's did....
Plus there price is awsome for the 295's.

 

You do realize that Nitto technically has two "TGs"? Terra Grapplers and Trail Grapplers... thought I assumed based on your mention of the Duratracs you are referring to the Terra Grapplers. I have heard VERY good things about them. Likewise, as a Trail Grappler owner, I am VERY happy.

Yeah I was looking at those aswell, but there probably not as good in snow.....
Hows bad will the rubbing be with the 295 terra's?

 

I've heard they are great..I have Cooper ATRs and they look similar to the TG. I paid about $550 mounted and balenced out the door with tax.
I've only put about 600 miles on them, but so far they are very quiet. My dad has them on his F150 and has about 40k and they are still running strong.

Either way, Nitto makes a great tire. I couldn't find a dealer in town to even price them though.

 

Awsome! but will the 295's work out? I stay on pavement most of the time. I just want something a little bit wider then the 285's...
The 295's measure out at a 33.1" and 12" wide.

 

I have 285 Terra's. My dad has 305's on his F150. He has about 30k+ on his and they still look good. Just dont burn out with them and they will last.

 

cant speak for snow experience but ive had some in both a 265/70r17 and 285 and they rode real smooth and wore really well, id definately buy them again

 

How do the sidewalls hold up with constant airing down! Tons of beach driving done around 15-20 psi! Looking into these myself,but think this is to aggressive for the sand.

 

I still want to know if there a good tire for some snow, and if the 295's are over kill for a 3" lift???

 

like chris said, they grip very well in the snow. last winter in virginia, we got killed with 3 abnormally large blizzards back to back. after one of them, the snow was jsut barely below the grill. myself and a neighbor with a 10 inch lift on his f250 were the only ones whocould make it out of our neighborhood (huge/steep hill about a quarter mile long). not once did i get stuck in those three storms. i actually bullded a small plow out of a ditch with i was just driving around helping all the stuck people. i highly recomend them for snow driving.
I was at 15 psi the entire time btw. had i gotten stuck, i would feel comfortable dropping the tires down another 5 psi, maybe more if needed.

The other reason I want to go 295 is bc they are a D rated tire, and the 285's are a E.

Can anyone tell me how the 295's will fit on a 3" lift? Do the Terra Grapplers measure out as a actual 33" in the 295?

Still cant descide if I want to go 285 or 295.... It just seams like 285s arent enough tire....

 

yes you can fit a 295 with a 3" lift. you will just have to do some work to fit them. there are alot of threads on here where guys are fitting 33x12.5's, 295s, and 35s on 3" of lift. theres just some finesse work necessary to fit them.

 

285's rub on a 3" lift, so im sure 295's will be worse. a lot of people end up doing a lot of trimming and chopping cab mounts just to fit a 285.
