2011 pressure ratings door to tire ??

Have a new 2011 Taco 4cyl reg cab man trans. The door tag says 30psi cold thats the only psi given. The tires say 51 psi cold at a given weight. What the heck ? Have the tires been changed ? Yes its brand new.

 

Door tag is Toyotas psi(what you air tires to). tires psi is a max rating for tire.

 

Does that mean you can run 30psi in these tires that say 51psi max. That seems like the tire would be running to low. 21lbs difference ? I always thought you should set the tires close to the pressure rating on the sidewall ? You would think it would give a min pressure rating as well for no load conditions. Heck if I know Im going to run 40 at no load for now and watch tread ware.

 

I run mine at about 28 to 29, even though the door says 30. If I have them at 30 the truck is all over the road at 65mph. I noticed the taking out that one pound makes a big difference.

 

The tire pressure on the tire is the max pressure the tire can handle at the max load the tire is rated for. Your truck isn't anywhere near that weight. Go by the pressure on the door as a starting point and do the chaulk test to find the optimum pressure (it'll be close to what's listed on the door for daily driving unless you're fully loaded all day every day). The chaulk test entails drawing a line of chaulk across the tire, driving about a mile or two, then inspecting the line you drew. If it's worn on the center and not the edges, you have too much pressure and visa versa. I run 30-32 psi in mine (265/65R17).

 

I run the tire pressure that toyota recommends. Like Pugga said the tire will show the max pressure on the sidewall. Your truck is fairly lightweight so your won't need to max out the pressure. Only time i run more than 30/32 is when im hauling my trailer or have my quad in the bed.
