Well after another 2 weeks I have discovered the front tires are slightly rubbing against the control arm at full lock. Not enough to cause a problem. Just wanted to update people whom asked. Did not see it until I looked and found the paint rubbed off. No drive issues though.

Added Tonno Pro tri-fold Bed Cover. The wife is loving it. It truly does make a diference in the wind. Nice curb appeal too. For $240 (with 10% discount) it is a good quality product.

Looking good. I'm beginning to like the flush look myself and am very curious if anything would rub after a small lift.

I'm doing a 5100/Eibach lift next weekend. I didn't want to go 285's, but now have been thinking about it after this thread. I want to go 18's, also.

Hey Lex, please post some pics of your truck after your lift and tire install. I was thinking about doing the same lift (eibach and 5100's set at .85) and 285-60-18 tires.

if you are catching the uca on the tire during normal driving you are going to destroy that joint if you wheel it. And "no rubbing" on the highway is not "no rubbing" during flex... You may want to look into a minor lift or risk tearing stuff up if you offroad jmo..

I forgot to show the method of securing the thin plastic trim piece.

See picture. You will notice, if you pull back the trim piece, there is a bolt hole in the loction behind the trim where you can secure the trim.

I could not find a bolt in my spare parts drawer that would fit the hole and threading. So, I inserted a small plastic expansion wall anchor (plastic torpedo shape) into the bolt hole and used a small gauge nail brad to push hole in thin plastic trim piece. Then I used a washer and small screw to secure the trim piece.

I hope it holds. If not I will have to go to hardware store and find bolt that fits. I thought about using one of the plastic trim piece expansion type clips (I seen some on my fender flare). Looks like they were there to secure mud flaps???? But, I wanted more securement. If thscrew/bolt does not work, perhaps the lift will. If not then, I will cut the piece to eliminate all contact.

Solved plastic from making load noices when tire makes contact. Again, the tire will still make contact when turning up and in to a drive way. However, securing the trim piece will mute the noise.

Lastly, due to the UCA rub, I will lift withing the next two weeks. I am trying to decide tonight about the method (Shock/spring or space lift kit)

I agree this rub is not optimal. But not major (only the outer tip of tire tread is making contact). 4 wheeling would definitely be an issue with flex. However, I do not want to continue long-term with the rub.

It is only the darn tip of the tire tread. I need to search the forum to see if lift kit raises the UCA???

If ride quality is an issue, you want to stay away from a spacer lift.

I had one on my old '06 and it rode like a tank. Just an FYI.

I have the same truck and want to go as big with the wheels and tires as I can without lifting it.

1) With your set up, do you think you could make any more adjustments to take care of the slight rub without lifting it?

2) I like your 5.7bs but think I like the 4.5bs a little more. Would that cause even more rub?


3) the two other trucks that both have the 4.5, they both have a lift im assuming? and anyone other than this thread starter go 18's and big tires without a lift?

really like the look of the truck. i am actually trying to figure what i am going to do for wheel size. most recommend 17s but your 18s are gorgeous!!!!
do you suffer any with gas mileage?

You do realize that if a tire is 2" taller, it will only make the truck sit 1" higher, right?

1. No other adjustment possible on the plastic w/o trimming. However, the trim would be minor. See previous pictures were i screwed down the loose plastic fender well. That piece would need to be cut back. UCA may be eliminated with aftermarket UCA. Can't say for sure, it is not rubbing enough for me to do anything until I install the lift.

2. Off set - Anything that move the wheel closer to the hub will bring the tire closer to the UCA. It should not affect the plastic rub. That is caused by the size of the tire relative to the fender well.

3. Search TW member se7en. He has alot of info available or PM him.

Measuring gas mileage difference now. I expect it will. The tire/wheel weight difference is approximately 30 pounds X 4. The additional height creates more drag.

However, I did put on a Tonno Pro Tri-Fold Bed Cover. It seems to make a difference in truck sway and drag.
