The 285's will not rub BFG's will not rub with a 3in lift unless making a hard turn and hitting a bump then you will hit the metal body mount. Looks like that one part would need to be grinded out to keep from rubbing if you plan on doing some off road riding or taking on the curbs at your local grocery store. Not sure how grinding down that metal mount would work out though you may want to consult with someone before doing that

I'm hunting for some 18 x 8.5 or 17 x 8 wheels. Not many out there as most come in 9s.

I'm thinking about 275 or 285s.

tire rub

don't know if it helps but i have the 285 70 r17 bfg ats and they dont rub at all after trimming the front part of the inner fender (the little blob part that hangs down lower than the rest). I ripped a mudflap off offroading before the tires so they all came off anyway and no issues there. If you keep em on sooner or later it will catch, dont know what happened to mudflaps that arent stiff plastic

Running 285 with xd monsters!

Hey i run a set of 285/70 on 18" xd monsters on my 2010 toyota tacoma and as of right now i have no lift... the tires fit great i had to trim a little bit of my from bump on both sides but other than that they are great! Can't wait until i get a 3 inch lift, Hope this helped!

Wow!

that looks incredible. I have two questions:

1. would spacers (like 1.25 spidertrax) prevent rubbing without trimming, or at least keep the tires from the UCAs? or would the spacers create their own problems?

2.I have a 08 DC 4x4 no lift too, but it's an SR5. Does that change my ability to do what exactly what you did, what with having different shocks and whatever else is different between the SR5 and TRD sport?

I just installed these tires on XD Monsters with the 5.71bs, +18mm offset, Billies 5100 @ 2.5. I also have a 1/4" wheel spacer. I had to trim some front wheel well plastic but it clears my mudflap. The very edge of the thread is rubbing the UCA on a hard turn of the steering wheel, I mean all the way. If I have it turned all the way and shut the truck off, the steering wheel turns back an inch or so and it no longer touches.

It also slightly rubs the LCA and chassis at a full hard turn. It also rubs the farthest inside edge of the coloured fender.

If I had my time back I may have gone with 275/65r18. I wouldn't have had any trouble with those I would figure.

I have 1" spacers on the way which will no doubt clear the UCA/LCA/chassis but will certainly rub the mudflap and more plastic up front. Not sure by how much yet. I really don't want to do the cab mount chop. It seems you have to do the CMC for 1.5" spacers.

Like the OP, I rather keep the tires under the fenders as much as possible. Once I get the 1" spacers, I'll remove the 1/4". Right now it looks awesome, not sure what an extra 3/4" will do for looks and keeping wheels/tires under the fender. I don't have much room to spare really. I'll try and get some pictures later.

Here are some pics with my 285s. On a full complete lock, the tire rubs at 3 places. UCA (barely, second last picture, can barely pick it out), LCA, and chassis, but not by much. You can see the old rub mark from my old 265/70r18s on the LCA before the 1/4" spacer. After the spacer, those tires didn't rub anymore. But now even with that spacer, the 285s barely rub at full lock.

I fluked into some 1" spacers thanks to xpocad so I'll post results once I get those on. They will replace the 1/4" and give me an extra 3/4" over what I have now. I hope they don't stick the rims out too far, I like the tucked-in look.

I don't dare go offroad yet until I get those 1" spacers. I still need to trim the coloured fender a little but will wait to see how the 1" spacers work out before trimming anything else.

Been reading your post and I sorry I'm stupid.
Pleas tell me exactly what you put on your truck so I can copy it

I want large wheels and tires wo lifting it
Also, do you know where your truck was made- us or Mexico?

Reason I ask, mine was made in Mexico. Went to replace the computer, and ordered one. It can and it was totally different. My mechanic thru research discovered that some of these trucks were made in us and some in Mexico, and the ones made in mex do NOT use all the same parts. Ex: my computer was completly different-cheaper but different .

Maybe that is the problem between those who are having no problems with this set up and those who are having nightmares?

John...if you get the 18" Monsters, go with a tire size of 275/65/18 and you won't have to trim. I do have a 3" lift kit though, but "Nadda" rubbing...

I'm running Goodyear Duratracs for the tires and love them...

Also, I recommend the 4.5bs / -12os as they are not as close to the suspension as the OP's. You'll never be able to hit any bumps or go off-road with the OP's backspacing/Offset

Do yourself favor - get the 285's and do the minor trimming. And I do mean minor trim. No lift needed. You will need to pin back the plastic with the screw I listed here - no big deal. I used the existing hole behind the plastic. Pull plastic back and feel for it.

The ride quality is simply amazing. Also, please get the bed cover. Again, better ride quality, gas milage, looks.

My only issue was with the monster xd's. The design and build quality of the plastic hub cover is disappointing.

I have a picture of the box the xd's came in with exact measurements. Go back and take a look at this thread.

Again, I want to emphasize that I do not wheel this truck. If you plan on doing so, you will want to plan accordingly. This is not the set up for you.
