Is there a method to help determine what size wheel and tire will fit?

The the faq links give the largest tire for stock suspension. And there are dozens of "will this fit" threads to sort thru. Is there a general method you can use to get an idea of what tire size you can fit based off the size of the lift besides searching tons of threads or relying on expierence (some of us don't have any)? Like for example, for every 1" you lift you truck you can add about 10% to the overall hight of the stock tire? Sort of like a tire size rule of thumb? Or does it just come down to search, search, and search some more?

it's not really an end all be all kinda thing. you can fit 285s on a 3" w/ tirmming or you can fit 315s on a 3" w/ a lot of trimming and cutting.

I don't think a one inch lift is going to let you fit anything bigger than what stock can. A 265/75/16 will fit in stock form.

The biggest tire you can fit on a stock truck is 265x75x16 without cutting. Anything bigger and you will have to do some trimming. Every tire is different so you start with a ballpark number and trim as needed. These wheel wells were designed for only a few tire sizes so doing anything but those will require modification.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting anything written in stone. I picked up on the chalk method browsing thru threads the other day and was wondering if there were any other "methods" that applied to tires and wheels.

Other than the alignment there is no differnce in 1, 2 or 3" of lift vs stock. Its the same arms stuffing the tires in the same fender... once you stuff the wheel its the same as stock.
