265 vs 285, Help me decide!
Help me pick!!! I can't decide what size tire to run. I"m going to run Konig Countersteer wheels (4.5BS 0 Offset) wheels on either 265/75/16 or 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I have billy 5100s set at 2.5" in the front and 2" AAL in the rear. From the pictures, It looks like 265/75s should be more then enough for a 2.5" lift, I just don't want to regret not getting the 285s later down the road

If you don't want to risk regretting anything, go with the 285s!

Just remember the bigger the tire the slower your truck will accelerate, and the poorer the fuel economy you will get. Regearing will fix the acceleration somewhat, but not the economy.
If you go too big on tires you will need to re-gear both differentials. The lower the gearing the better off road(within reason), putting larger tires has the effect of raising your gear ratio. If you go too large on tires without changing the gearing your truck's off road performance will suffer, and you could experience transmission overheating problems. If it's a manual you would be having clutch problems instead. If it's all about off roading go big, change gears, and do more lifting and or trimming. For real off road prowess gearing is critical, and since it will make your truck a better off roader than tires will I would suggest that gears come first, then tires. |

the 285's look awesome, but are relatively heavier than the 265's. its a toss up, but i would use a 265/75/16, just me though.

I guess I'm more concern about clearance issues with only a 2.5" lift. Looks like people around here run them all day long with 3" lifts, rarely see people running them on billy 5100s. How much will I have to cut?
Just to get this strait, 265/75 = 32" / 285/75 = 33"?

I have the 5100's with 265's so take a look at mine and you'll see what that looks like. I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers and they are so friggen soft. I have like 12k miles on them and I am due for new ones. Stear clear of the Nittos.

I'm not sure what my nittos were rated, I just took what they put on there. They told me they would last longer than the BFG's (not even close). Those buckshots are dope, what what the OTD on those and where did you get em?
