Super Swamper SSR fitment?

I am looking at a set of Super Swamper's SSR tires. They seem like a pretty good tire as far as looks as well as function. They obviously have the good looks and performance. They are a radial, siped, quieter than other SS tires, and I have read multiple reviews of 30,000+ miles. The two things I was wondering about is fitment and weight. The tire is a 285/75/16, but measures 33.9''x11.4''. I have 3+" of lift, but no cab mount chop. I know this will require a the regular trimming and cab mount chop, but will it need to be cut down really far? Will a 34" tire interfere with my front fenders/bumper? Also weight is something else, they weigh 73lbs per tire. Would that require a regear?

I want a 33+'' tire and have been looking at Hankook's Dynapro MT RT03 as well. In the 295/75/16 size, it is 33.6''x11.6'' and 68lbs. I have been looking at the Hankooks for a while, but these SSR's are pretty tempting too. I guess the differences are .3", 5lbs, and the looks.

I'm kind of stuck in the middle right now. What all would I need to do to run the SSR's? What difference would there be in running the Hankooks vs the SSR's as far as trimming/cutting and performance? and last, which tire would you choose over the other and why? I can get either of them for within about $100 of each other for all 4, but I want to make the better choice for me as well as my truck.

Another neat pricy and heavy tire is a 33" Mud Grappler, also radial.

I am fine with trimming and the cab mount chop, I guess I should just see how much it rubs, cut off more, if it still rubs, cut off more, etc. Can i cut this down with a sawzall or grinder with a metal blade? Instead of paying some shop like $200. No aftermarket ucas for me which = a little less rubbing. I am not a heavy off roader. I mean I may go once every month or two, my schedule doesn't let me do a lot. Honestly I want these because this is going to look badass and will be the only taco with a 3'' lift and 34's that I know of. I am not getting them solely for offroad purposes. So I won't be pushing my truck to the limits with these tires; mostly road driving. Lrgrnr, do you think I can pull this off with a good bit of trimming, cab mount chop, and just driving like a soccer mom haha? These tire's aren't a lot wider than most 285's at 11.7'', just about an inch taller than most. Also, will the weight of these tires kill me? I know they will in gas, but will they kill my transmission or anything? Need for a regear?

do you think i should stick with the 295 dynapros? at 5lbs lighter, and .3'' shorter, they are not much different. Strom ran those in a 295 also and did just fine after a cab mount chop and he off roads.

Thanks for the help man! That's what I was thinking, bc if these other guys are running 35's on 3", surely I can run a 34". I don't gotta be 100% rub free. The only thing is the weight, these weight 73lbs, that's more than some 35's. Do you think a regear is necessary for daily driving?

 

Yes, I realize what I'm getting into with Super Swamper tires. They don't wear too great, but I have read many reviews for the past few days and have saw several people's reviews of 30k-40k+ miles on these. I know there will be more trouble balancing these tires, that they will be louder, and not ride amazing. But after looking at many reviews and researching SS tires, this seems to be the overall best choice with SS. They have better tread life and overall better road manners than other SS tires. I also like the unique size, that they are badass, and that they still perform like an SS tire. I'm not exactly about to buy them, I just had been looking at the 295 Hankook Dynapro MT RT03's and ran across these. I'm just looking into them and just was wondering what you guys thought and which tire you lean towards; Hankook or SS. It will still be a few more months before I'll be buying any new tires.

I ended up getting the 295 hankooks a week or two ago. I love them. So far all I've had to cut back was plastic on the front and rear of the fender and I'm clear lock to lock. Even on a light trail and pretty uneven ground with flex I couldn't get them to rub the cab mount. They look good and haven't seemed to cause any trouble so far. I had 265/75/16 duratracs load range E before, which were pretty heavy, so I haven't noticed too much of a power loss. Only on some hills that I normally take I realized that I didn't have quite as much pep, but I'm definitely not bogged down or in need of a regear. I finished my first full tank with them on and got 17.5 mpg. But I did have to have them rebalanced the other day and I'm hoping it's not something I have to do too much. They were shaking the steering wheel like I was on a washed out gravel road on the highway and it felt like the rear end was hopping at about 50mph. But since I have free rotate and balance with discount tire, I just got them re-done at a different discount tire. The guys there said that the discount tire that put them on doesn't do the best balancing anyways. They ride smooth now; maybe I just lost a balancing weight.

In all, I'm pleased with them.
