'09 Taco and 16x8 wheels

I had planned on getting 16x8 MotoMetal 955s and 285/75s. However, I just got off the phone with 4WheelParts and they told me that I would have to step up to 17x9 (4.53 backspace and -12mm offset) rims if I go aftermarket. Said the calipers will get in the way (specifically on the '09).

I have heard about people having to grind the calipers, but I don't think they were talking about the '09s. I asked him about it and he said that there just isn't enough there to grind.

Has anyone been able to get 16x8 on an '09?

I was also thinking about stepping up to the 305/65s since I'm doing the 17x9.

Thoughts? I'm lifting the front about 3 1/2" with total chaos UCAs.

Jason,

When looking at larger wheels, keep in mind that many of the all terrain tires you'll find in 16" are not available in 17" & 18" sizes. I ended up going with 18" wheels, as I had more tire choices for future swap outs.

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't thought of that. However, I'm looking at the ProComp XTerrain 305/65/17. 4wheelparts.com has a special on ProComps - buy three get one free. Also, they are willing to freight ship everything (wheels and tires) for $99.

Also, my particular taste is more tire and less wheel. If I could do 15", I would. So, I'm not happy with having to move up to 17" - so I REALLY don't want to go up to 18"! Starts looking a little too bling for me. But that's just my taste...

Gotcha Bro. I had the same concerns, but went with em' anyhow.
Just one word of caution. I had an 04 F-250 4x4, and I put 315 XTerrains on it. That had to have been one of the biggest mistakes that I ever made. The cupped like crazy, and made so much noise that I couldn't even talk on my cell phone while driving. Heck, the powerstroke diesel engine was quieter than those things! They may have made improvements to them since I had em', but just be careful.

Might want to ask around here & see how others like them. The F-250 was probably twice (if not more) as heavy, so that may have had a bunch to do with it. I've just tried to warn as many people as possible of my experiance with them. They look SWEET, but I had hell with thier performance.
