265/75/16 or 285/75/16...can't decide

I need some help. I've looked at pictures and I've read various posts. The tire I plan on running is the Goodyear Duratrac (Unless someone has a better option.) I realize I'll be doing some trimming and such with 285's. However, I haven't read much for 265's. Will 265's fit no problem aside from the front mudflaps?

The truck is my daily driver and while it will see the occasional off-road trail and such; it's primary duty will be get me to work.

Here is my set up that I just purchased to be installed with wheels and tires.

-Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit
-OME Dakar leafs
-Light Racing UCA

I am asking because I want to get it right the first time around. I don't want to buy 265's and regret it a month from now. If anyone can be detailed in what I would need to trim with 285's and if it's worth the extra work.

255/80/17 is another option although not in Duratracs

265 may look too small but be prepared to lose more power with the 285 and to do some trimmin too

I've had 265/75/16s, and with 3" lift I think they would look too small. I will be installing 285/75/16s when I install my lift kit next month.

Do most of you base you tire purchases on mostly looks? I know it looks better to get a bigger tire stuffed in there but where does performance and milage come into play?

I have 31's with a 3" lift. They do look small but I am not sure I'd be happy with bigger tires. With the 31's and a decent load in the bed it just barely holds any speed in 5th gear up decent hills. With a bigger tire I'd have to downshift and use more fuel.

I guess it's just a trade off!

Im running 265/75 because of the mpg's. 285 will look better but gas prices are to much for me to justify going bigger. If I do go bigger it will be 255/85.

I have 265's. 285's are cool if you don't mind hacking into your truck and loss of power and mpg... although not much.

i had a hard time making that decision when i lifted my truck and i am glad that i went with 285's.

I installed the same kit Dakar's and all. I have 265/75/16 was thinking of going biger. I have a 08 TRD2 Xcab, the Dakars lifted 4" and The Toytec's 3" from the box. how much lift did U get. I thought I was going to be at 2.5 & 2.75" . I have about 1400 miles and nothing drpoed, just some squeeks from the dakars.

I still have trouble believing the 4" with the Dakars , what is your hub to fender measurement in the rear ?
