Tire measurement - is this guy correct?

I went to ORW to get a tire quote about putting some BFG's on my stock rims and what the biggest size I could go without them rubbing.

I have a 2.5" leveling spacer on the front (am going to replace with a T.U.L. kit)

He said I could run (on the stock rims) 285/75/16 without them rubbing and that the rim width isn't too small for that size.

That size sounds a little large to me... is he correct in saying that I could run that size on that rim without any issues?

 

You should be able to run those with some wheel spacers and some minor trimming up front.

Honestly its not a lot of trimming. Plus the plastic you trim is thin and flimsy so its easy to cut. I just used a little dremel and that worked like a champ!! You wont have to cut anything that will mess with the trucks frame.

 

If you dont want to trim get the 265/75/16. I run these on my truck with a 3 inch lift.

 

Or you can do this OP and go the other route. It all just depends on what look you want and how hard you plan to off-road. I wanted the more aggressive look so I went with the 285's. I still rub a tiny bit at full lock in reverse sometimes.

If you flex the truck you will rub like a motherfucker.

Trimming will get you by over the road, but if you actually wheel it you'll need cab mount chop, trimming, pinch weld beating, and ideally some new wheels.

If you're a streeter you'll be fine.

Edit: Saw you're a prerunner. You'll be fine.

 

I am planning on some off-roading (back country trails and roads, etc)

May do some 275's to be safer
