Yesterday I saw that the sticker on my driver's side door jam says that my truck came with 225/75/15 tires! Is this correct? Truck is a 2003 Xcab 4x4 2.7L, 5spd non-TRD.

I just bought the truck a few weeks ago and it came with 265/70/16s on what look to be (now that I look closely) gen2 steel wheels??? (see pic below)... so I guess the previous owner swapped out the stock 15s & 225/75s for a set of gen2 wheels and put the 265/70/16s on it???

Just trying to find out so I know what I came with originally and so that I can make any necessary speedo and mpg-calc corrections (265/70/16s are about 1.5" taller than 225/75/15s).

Can anyone confirm if my non-TRD 2.7L 4x4 2003 did indeed come with 225/75/15s from the factory? Thanks.

That sounds about right. I'm running 225/75/15s. Some models came with the 16inch wheels, but I imagine the door sticker would reflect that.

Yes and no. Factory base came with the 225/75/15's but there was a factory option for the larger tire/wheel combo. Also those are factory steel 1st gen wheels not gen2.

My truck came with 225/75/15 and I switched to 31x10.5x15. This is 3 inches taller and the speedo wasn't very far off. Just by one mph in town. I wouldn't worry about it.

I just went & checked my spare...it's 265/70/16 too??? Hmm... & there's also another sticker on my door jam that shows only recommended tire pressures & it shows PSI numbers for both 225/75/15 & 265/70/16! What the...?

Ok, thanks. Hmm... the mystery deepens. :)

    • 225/75/15 on door jam decal
    • recommended PSI numbers for both225/75/15 AND 265/70/16 on a separate door jam decal
    • 265/70/16 spare
can anyone confirm (or deny) for me that my wheels (see pic in first post) are 1st gen wheels or not?

Anyway, it looks like the question is since both tire sizes were available what option drove the addition of the 265/70/16s. I thought maybe it was TRD, but Kevlar1267 has debunked that.:confused::confused:

Does anone have a factory Tacoma brochure from 2000-2004? Maybe it would show the options that included the 265/70/16s.
