Check the tire manufacturers website. They have an approved rim width range for each size tire. A lot of 265/70/17's aren't approved for use on 9" rims.

Just going off the top of my head and not researching fitment numbers, I say 265s will look a tad small for a 9in wheel. Id look towards a 285 for the 9in wheel or put the 265 on the 8in wheel. This logic will help keep your tires looking nice and "square" in the shoulder area, rather than looking like (for example) a narrow tire "reaching out" to fit and fill a wider rim.

Yeah 265 is a bit skinny probably for a 9" wheel. 17x8 would probably be the better choice. The 17x9 would probably work, but why settle for less than optimal. An 8" wheel is generally the good up to about a 275/285 width (depending on sidewall height and manufacturer).

Anyway, if it was me I'd go with 17x8.

Generally speaking, 8" wheels are good to go up to 315's from the tire manufactures sites I have checked.

All the more reason to go with 17x8s then.
