    then don't do it...

also, if putting on 17s and they are coming from a 2nd gen taco, the backspace of the wheels may not be what you want if trying to stuff 33s or larger on stock arms...

on a first gen, it's not just the pinch weld you have to worry about... being a smaller wheelwell than the 2nd gen, you can get rubbing on the pinch weld, the front bumper valance, the upper control arm, and the frame rails... unless you are skilled enough to flex only when driving forward, you want to take other angles into consideration...

while the tire deal at this time is lucrative, it may not pan out so well if you end up having to pay someone to hack your truck up just to fit this one set of wheels...

then, when those tires wear out, will you be able to afford the next set?

    just some food for thought...

OP, in other words, just dont do it, stick with 285s or even 295s but 315s might just be too much right now

I'm not getting rims, just the tires. So I'll be able to choose the right backspacing when I purchase those later.

Ok.... well I have the tires now and will experiment with stuff and see what I can come up with. I know what you mean with all the angles... I think I'll be in for a surprise... and I may be giving them back if I can't figure out a good plan. No biggie....

The next set shouldn't be a big deal. I just had to slap down $1200 today though for some stuff and it's just a bummer right now. I work at Discount Tire...... Used sets of tires are pretty common... (It's just hard to find 33s!!!!)

dont get me wrong, it would look so sick! but seems like alot of work just to get them to fit and then trying to offroad and flex it just seems like a whole other obstacle

Yeah.... I'm willing to do the work to save the money though.

But it would kinda suck if it turns out I'm not able to anything else to make them fit and I have to have someone else do it......

Of course, I could always do the grinder work myself and then have somebody just weld two plates in the firewall.... that shouldn't cost too much. ?? And then I just have to re-gear one diff. (It's bound to happen in the future anyway...) That's the only pricey part, but it's a good idea to do, even if I go to 33s.

dude if you do decide to tub it I can help with the welding/metal work. That is if I can find the time

Good luck though, and you will need to re-gear by the way. Look into east coast gear supply for their complete 3rd member swap deal. I would regear to 4.56 or maybe even 4.88 if you don't mind the extra rev's on the freeway.

Thanks, man! I could definately use your skills. I'm still trying to decide though......

And I'll definately look into the 3rd member swap deal!!! Is that basically a trade-in?

yeah pretty much. And since you're 2wd it won't be ridiculously expensive. Plus it's easy to install yourself since all the setup is already done by ECGS, Just bolt up the 3rd and done.

 You cut the hole for clearance and then plate it.

If all this is just to fit some tires you got a good "deal" on, its probably not worth it.

Nice. Do you do much Highway driving? I bet your in-city mpg is pretty good.. Is it in the 20s? :)
Yes I know... I was refering to my lack of knowledge in welding... this shouldn't be a problem if I'm able to utalize Steven's welding skills though. :D

Well.... I've been searching for used 33's for months (craigslist, and every discount tire in the area) and haven't found anything good. These 315s were free.

Rims aren't too much of an issue since my stock 15s are only 7" wide.. I was going to have to buy new ones anyway.

Re-gearing isn't really an issue either since I was planning on doing it (in the future at least) with the 33s anyway.

As for the next set of tires, the 315/70/17s are more common and should be easier to find a good deal on a used set. (or treadwright.com is nice and cheap.... who don't even sell 33/----/r15s due to their rarity!!) And paying over $1100 for a set of 5 new 33s is kinda out of the question....

So I don't know.... I think maybe it is worth it, just to cut up some metal and do a little welding.... (I know it's not quite that simple, but it is all possible with tools I have) Unless I'm being very naive about this whole thing...
