guys that went from 265's to 285's....

my truck has 265/70/17's AT's on it now and i'm thinking about stepping up to some 285's, how bad of a hit did you guys take in your MPG?

i know a bunch of ppl are gonna chime in with the "who cares" but i do, i have to drive this thing every day it's not just a weekend toy and i dont wanna drive around on the highway getting 12mpg

currently my truck averages between 18-19mpg, i dont need wider tires but having 9.5in wide wheels i think it'd look alot better with 285's

 

I went from 18-20 hwy to 17-19 hwy (6 cyl double cab)

 

thanks for the quick reply, that's not as bad as i thought, i guess i should also ask, i shouldn't have any problems with these rubbing will I? front is at 1.75, no mud flaps, winch bumper and the offset of my wheels is.... i forget but they're XD's, the offset that most run

 

I rub with 3 inch in front and its the back of the fender not the front. I have xd wheels as well. Btw, my in city gas mileage is terrible now. Like 12-14 bad.

 

The rubbing is only in reverse or any suspension compression.

 

My mpgs are about 14-16 mixed driving. It kinda sucks but you gotta pay to look this good.

Rubbing is minimal, not something that cant be handled with some mild cutting.

 

I was averaging 20mpg each tank using the odometer with stock 265/65/17 tires. I use an app called Road Trip and have been logging it since last year when I got the truck.

Once I switched to 285/70/17 I've been averaging about 16mpg. Once I add the 7% error in wheel circumference I get an average of 17mpg, so total 3mpg loss.

The looks seems totally worth it, its the size it should have, but for as much as I drive I'm paying an extra $60/month in gas for having them...

 

Oh I also got a cab mount chop and had to trim some plastic, and still have rubbed since I offroad a bit rough Nothing bad tho, just make sure you get atleast a 3" lift. If you take it easy, dont worry too much about trimming a lot...
