Which 15x8 wheels, and tires for stock 1st gen?

searched around and have not found anything definite which is why I am posting

I have a stock 2001 Tacoma 4x4 and I need new tires soon and hate my wheels as well, so I figured id get both.

Im looking for some black wheels..etc such as the wheelers or cragar soft 8s or something comparable in 15x8, unless you suggest another size and need to know what options are out there and will fit with the least amount of trouble.

I also would like to know what is the biggest tire i could run on the wheels you suggest. I am aware that most would recommend getting a lift which would allow for bigger tires but that's not in my budget at the moment and I like the truck at stock height for now.

im not sure if the 15's will fit on an 01. i could be wrong. but i think they have to be 16's to clear the caliper. and without lift about the largest tire you could fit would be a 265/75/15 or 16 whichever.

 

31/ 10.50R 15 should be a good size.those wheels you listed were all steel wheels. is that what your looking for? steel is cheaper than aluminum wheels. you might be able to fit a 32 1150 15 but I wouldnt suggest it unless you want to do some trimming. just watch out for tire rub on the upper control arm. I personally like factory wheels that have been painted or powdercoated.

 

32's will fit with out any trimming. thats the factory size on the trd offroad trucks. it equates out to a 265 75 15

its been a while since i had factory tires on mine. when i bought mine it had the stock 225/70/15's on it.

 

the 265 75 16 isnt a 32" tall tire. depending on the tread design its is around a 31.2-31.5. A 32 in a 15" wheel is right at 32". but like I said it all depends on the tread and how deep it is. Trust me on this one. I sell tires for a living.

you can fit 15s up to 2004...

you likely will not clear the brake vein with Soft 8 style steel wheels... the dimple dies stick in too far...

if you use a small spacer, you could run the 8s...

 

Thanks for the replies , and yes black steel wheels are primarily what I am looking for I had read that wheelers 15x8 would fit an 1 gen, and the second gens only needed 16 or bigger, I could be wrong though .

 

we sell Allied wheels at my work and they dont work on the tacoma's cause like mikesdoublecab said they rub on the calipers. I never recommend spacers due to the fact that they move the wheel away from the hub which puts more stress on the wheel studs and your more likely to have a loose wheel. Good thing about going into a shop is they can test fit and find out what works and what doesnt. Just my 2 cents and what I have seen over the last 8 years of working at a tire store.

 

although, i do like Allied Wheels cuz i did run their black steel streetlocks with the D windows for 3 years and i was able to order them in 4" backspace when nobody else at the time was offering that style of wheel in anything less than 4.25"
