Looking at putting some General Grabber red letters on a 16x9 inch rim. Dont want to do 16x8 because I want to maintain width. Dont want to go to a 17 inch because of price.

So I was just wondering if a 285/75/16 on a 9inch wide rim was a smart idea or if I should either do a 8 inch wide, or bump it up to a 17 inch rim.

Also is there a noticeable difference between a 285/75/16 compared to a 285/70/17?

    Thanks for the help.

You should be fine running the 285 on the 9" rim. For future reference, the tire manufactuers website will list the rim widths that are approved for each size tire.

There is virtually no difference in size. Specifically, the 17 is 0.1" smaller than the 16.
