Suggest snow/ice tire 31X10.5R15

    Title says all, i was thinking the BFG All-Terrain T/A KO.

    I really don't care about road noise. There doesn't seems to be a lot of snow tires in that size only all seasons. I only drive my truck when it snows etc.

    If you only drive it when it snows why not get studded tires or true winter tires instead of an all terrain?

    I ran 31X10.5R15 BFG A/T KOs on my '92 Toyota Pickup for many years, all year round. Never had any problems with winter driving (including off-road) in Colorado, Montana, and Pennsylvania. They're great tires! Another worth considering are Goodyear Duratracs.

    Ya the Duratracs have by far the best snow rating of the all terrains. I have a buddy who has them and had them siped and they are basically a winter tire now haha. Still get that off-road toughness though.

    if you are looking for snow specific tires dont go so wide, look at 9-9.5 inch wide tires. if you want them on year round Duratracks get the best all around reviews and are prob the best AT for snow

    It's supposed to aid in traction on snow and ice. The couple times I've had them in snow I didn't have any wheel slippage and I haven't slid at all yet so I'd say so far so good.


    They have some kind of machine that does it.

    I took mine to be siped, and they did the whole tire instead of just the inner lugs. Forgot to say something. Oops!

    Was 25 a tire I believe.

    I'm a huge fan of BFG AT TA's, but if you're looking for great snow clearing, and ice traction, I have a set of Dean Wintercat SST's. Fantastic!

    The only reason I get stuck in snow, is because I am pushing snow with my headlights!

    Ice traction? I was going over 80 km/h pulling a trailer going around downhill corners on an Ice road. traction control only kicked in once.. that was my bad :D

    BUT they are a true winter tire.

    My last set of BFG AT TA's were killer in the snow also, but it is nice to have a set of mudders for summer, and winters for the fun weelin season!

    Be warned when you sipe a tire you kill tread life. The sipes allow the tread to flex more in which gives better traction but kills the tire faster and make ls the treads weaker over time. If its not done right your wasting money. FYI we do alot tire sipes in motocross to get what we can out of older tires. We never do it to newer tires

    Tire siping will not kill your tire life. In many conditions it CAN increase your tire life, deceasing cupping and dissipating heat faster. In other conditions it CAN decrease your tire life. If driving on rough gravel and rocks it can create more edges that "chunk". Unless you spend lots of time on rocks the tire siping is a great thing, especially in snow.

    I think most AT tires have adequate siping from the factory. Mud tires that are running in snow see a big benefit.

    I only use the truck for crap weather to get to work which is 50 miles one way don't really need to use studs as in the city it's been plowed i think the pavement would wear them quickly?

    We had a surprise snow fall the other day 10+ inches and i was all over the road my tires are worn out and one tire on the front has no tread on the outer edge i've had a 4 wheel alignment and they said it was fine and that one of the tires was not perfectly round so my truck has always pulled to the side when the tires get rotated the truck would pull to the other side and they re-balanced the tires etc i had it there 4 times getting re-checked.

    I got the tires from tire rack they now have 60,000 miles on them. I think i will get the prices of the Duratracs around town. My biggest trouble is the ass end of the truck always breaks free if i just touch the brakes or when going down a mountain without even touching the brakes using the motor to control the speed, i have 300lbs of sand in the back and it still does it.
