Allowable Rim Width on tires

Hey everyone just came across something while reading about wheels...when I got my new wheels and tires from America's tire, I figured everything would be ok. But I am looking into 255/85/16 BFG KM2s for when I lift more in the future, and it is says the allowable rim width for these 6.5"-8". So I say shit my rims are 16x8.5 so that isn't recommended and I don't want to have to buy new wheels. So this leads me to look up my current tires and their recommended width size. I have the BFG AT's in 265/75/16, and I discover the recommended width size is 7"-8"!
But I haven't had any problems, so is this a big deal? And this would lead me to believe that since both the 255s and 265s have recommended rim width maximums of 8", I would be ok with my 8.5"??

Anyone? I know it's just the manufacturer's recommended width but I haven't seen any adverse affects on mine. Maybe someone else who is running the MB72's with 8.5 can chime in about tire wear or something

 

your sidewall wil just bubble out liek crazy and look a little....hispanic? good choice of words?

 

HAHA very good choice of words...but I haven't experienced that with my 265s so would it really be any different with the 255s?

 

i had 255 on my 8" and it looked funky. you can kind of see it in my pic below if you look hard enough

 

well other than the fact that it might look weird, no real big things to worry about?

 

if you deflate them to much and turn to quick they can pop off the bead, likelyhood not high BUT it can happen

 

so what like no lower than 15psi?

 

it really all depends on the tire construction and sidewall stiffness as well as the environment your driving in, should be ok though
