BFG All Terrains or Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs

About to buy some new tires, trying to get an idea of which tire is more rounded and better, BFGoodrich All Terrains or Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs. I'm assuming both are a pretty good minor off-roading tire, which one is a better highway tire?

 

Bfg ats are very popular here and will most likely receive the most votes.

 

bfg will last longer for highway driving but the duratracs will perform better offroad IMO

 

Duratrac hands down over big at.

 

I just got Duratrac's on.....read all the reviews on TR and DT. The biggest complaint I noticed was the tire felt unstable/shifty. Although minimal, from the 300 miles or so I've put on them, I can't tell you that I have felt anything resembling that. They feel just as solid as my stock Dunlops. They do make more noise, but it's well within an easy to tolerate range. Didn't drive through anything but very wet roads and the traction in 2-3" deep water was solid. I'll be sure to leave a review once I get some decent time logged on them.

 

BFGoodrich All Terrains Good tire all the way around not a whole lot of noise and there good for offroading for the most part. Breaking and handling is nice also!

Few key points on them tho. They do crack from armor all. The side wall's will over time like any time begin to crack. (like any tire's)

Wrangler DuraTracs Also a good tire all the way around control of the truck has been said to be better then the BFG's a/t's but more noisier on the street.
And when running a low psi there fantastic!

If your doing more desert offroading then go with the BFG's
If not go with the Wrangler DuraTracs. That's all i can say.

 

Duratracs FTW!

 

Just got BFGs put on the truck last week in a 285/75/16. Been debating between a few different tires for months and finally pulled the trigger with these! Damn glad I did too. They are awesome out here in the desert terrain a have minimal road noise... And you can't beat the 40k tread warranty with a nice aggressive tread pattern!

 

OK chimming in with FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE, since I have owned both Duratracs AND BFG A/T TKOs. I put enough miles on both to give a fair comparison.



Duratracs - More agressive looking, outperformed the BFGs on almost all levels, had better snow traction, excellent dry traction and good wet traction, more so than the BFGs. They were slightly less expensive than the BFGs especially with rebates, excellent tread wear at almost 15K miles they still looked new. They were slightly louder though than the BFGs on the road, and the ride was not as smooth as the BFGs.


BFG A/T TKOs - Slightly more conservative looking tire because of the sidewall, although in person they still look agressive. Because of the tread design having even flat blocks similar to Hankook Dynapro tires, they made a better highway tire. They were quiter and smoother than the Duratracs. Wet traction was slightly inferior to the Duratracs, but still surprisingly good. I also averaged slightly better MPG in the BFGs than the Duratracs. Weak sidewall and puncture resistance, I popped two BFGs within two months on limestone, river rock, far from anything considered harsh.


Overall both are excellent choices and you can't go wrong with either one of them. Just depends on what you will be using your truck for and what goals you have for future uses. Based on the everyday use I put on both tires in simular conditions, the Goodyear Duratracs were far superior to the BFGs.

 

I found the BFG's to be good until the treads start to wear down. They will last longer than the Duratracs, but imo the performance of the BFG's goes downhill after awhile (sucked on wet roads). I'm running Duratracs now.

 

I'd be surprised if you had any wallowing issues with the amount of rim to rubber you have. People who complained of wallowy handling probably had 15 or 16" rims and load range C.

 

I love Bfg they last a while but Im at half way tread there still good I've been every where with these. I have chunks missing couple patches there still solid. Next tire I might try the duratracs

 

I have BFG's and they are good tires, I think I have about 40+k in them and still alot of tread left. I dont off road much but I've drove in a freshly plowed corn field in the rain and didn't get stuck, so I think they're good.

 

Agreed. It was one of the reasons why the Duratrac was the only choice in tire I considered. I love these tires.

 

Having run both now...

tough choice, I'd say BFG highway and tread life, Duratracs for offroad.

Both do well at both though, and I prefer the looks of the duratracs.

I bought BFG A/Ts when I moved up to 35s and although they're a great tire, I have trouble deciding, if I could go back again and do it over, what I'd do.

Jesus just pick out a tire, it's not like you're trying to decide how to diversify your investments here.
