toyo open country a/t reviews and opinions

any info/opinions/reviews would be greatly appreciated. I have narrowed it down to toyo's open country a/t but want to make sure I am completely happy with my choice. Does $145 sound about right for 265/70/17. Also looking at the Ion 179's for wheels. I have read endless threads etc and TW has been a huge help.

 

I've got those tires on my Tacoma and I dont think ill get anything different. They look mean and have saved my ass in situations that my 2WD shouldnt have been able to get through!

I have them on my truck in that same size tire and mounted on 17x9 XDs. They fill out the wheel well very nice. I drive 100% highway, about 110 miles every day to work and back. They dont roar and ride very smooth. I have 42000 miles on my set right now and looks like I may be able to get another 12-15000 miles out of them. I rotate and balance every 5000 miles and they have worn very even. Will be getting another set when these are worn out.

 

I am also looking into these tires OP. Hey do you still have the same set on your truck Redneck? Since your last post, did you get another 12-15000 miles on them? If so, it sounds like we are very similar in our driving habits and personal interests in which to use these tires.

 

Wilnbroc I just put another 8000 on them so Im up to around 50000 on them and they still have some tread left. Probably want go more than 5000 more on them to be on the safe side. I will be getting another set. Not one problem with them at all. Balanced and rode good every rotation. They should be a good choice for you as well.

 

I had the A/T's on my '06 Tacoma, no complaints at all.

 

I believe you all talked me into them. I was going back and forth on a good all terrain after reading credible reviews of the General Grabber AT2's, Hankook Dynapro AT, and the Yokohama Geolander AT/S searching for a good tire for the price that was quiet on hwy and could still do some good off-road. I love the Michelin's just can't seem to justify spending that much at this time.

Now I'm just unsure if I should get them local, or purchase online and have them shipped, as it seems I can save a little more by the latter and have a shop put them on. Do local shops add a road hazard warranty to their prices thus the reason for the considerable price differences?

Wilnbroc how are those toyo's holding up now? I'm thinking about going with them. I can get the Open Country A/T installed and out the door for $732 or the Michelin LTX A/T2 for $850 installed and out the door. Have the Michelins on there now and have around 65000 on them, they've been good to me.

 

Been awhile. Sorry for the late reply. The tires are great. I highly recommend them. I keep the rotated every 5k and still look like I've barely used them. Mud, trails work great. A little highway noise, but not as loud as other AT tires.
