I'm buying a 2012 Tacoma dbl cab 4x4 that is coming with the 18" optional wheel. Before I make the purchase I want to know if I can put on 275/65/18 Duratracs on this optional 18"Tacoma wheel without any lift. I don't want to mess with chopping, suspension, etc, yet. I love the duratrac's and want to make sure I can get them on this truck.

Otherwise I might just tell them to swap my 17" wheels (in bad shape) on my trade for the 18" wheels. They I can just get the 265/70/17 Duratracs and not have to worry about chopping, suspension, etc.

I did compare the two sizes (265/70/17 which are suppose to fit stock with no modifications and 275/65/18 which I may be coming my new truck) and found same small difference in sizes. The million dollar question for me is does this small difference in size take a 265/70/17 tire (one that will fit on stock TRD without any cutting/trimming/lift) to a 275/65/18 tire that no longer fits on stock TRD without cutting/trimming/etc.

Does anyone have 275/65/18 duratrac tires on the optional 18" stock Tacoma tire or an 18" wheel with the same backspacing with no lift, spacers, etc?

    Any thoughts on this?

You will likely get some rub on the rear of the front fender flare. The trimming is easy, but if don't want to trim at all, then the 265/70 is the way to go.

Check my gallery for some pics of the 275/65-18's at stock height. You should be able to tell the difference from when it was lifted 3".

Your truck looks great, and I was able to tell the different of Pre- Post-lift. When you were Pre-lift, did you need to do a lot of trimming/chopping, etc. to get rid of the rub or did you simply have to trim up the plastic? Did you also need to remove fender flares in front?

Thanks mang. I did remove the small front flaps just ahead of the tire. I also removed all the mudflaps around the whole truck since I didn't care for the look.

The trimming I did was minimal....maybe 2-3" off the back of the flare. You can see pics in my build thread. Keep in mind, my wheels have a more aggressive backspace than the stockers so you may want to invest in some Spidertrax spacers if nothing else. It will improve the stance (look) and give you a bit more space to fit those tires in.

Thanks. I'll probably just end up getting new 17" rims with the appropriate backspacing (4.5). I'm kinda partial to the ATX Crawl's. Then I'll throw on some 265/70/17 Duratracs.

    Thanks for the info

20% tint on the front windows. 8-15-13 Installed Icons front and rear with Dakars. 2012 4Runner wheels with 275/70/17 BFG T/A KO2's. Weather Tech mats front and back. Leer shell with Leer Locker and roof racks.
@ kb40 I just picked up my DCLB TRD Sport with the 18's and have looked into buying the BFD's S7ICKIVIAN has (awesome btw) but I'd be interested to see your setup if you install the duratracs please post or PM me if you do. I will probably remove the "chrome clad" and have my wheels powder coated it I don't purchase the BFD's. Dying to do some mods!!!
