if i got 285's, will my uca's still rub with 1" lift in front?

currently, i have adjustable 5100s set at 0 in front with stock uca's and 265s

i want to run 285s. everyone says they will rub the uca's.

if i set the 5100s to 1" will the 285s be okay and not rub the uca??

my wheel back space is 4.5



does anyone know?
ive looked everywhere without answer

i dont do serious wheeling and want to sell my camburg spindles and rear set up for 285's

what would i have to set the 5100's to so that the uca's wont rum when i put 285's on?

 

They won't rub the ucas at all with 4.5 bs. With only 1" of lift though, they will rub terribly on the fender well and the cab mounts. Also the 5100s do not have a 1" setting.

 

Lift height will not effect the uca rubbing the tire. That would be caused by wheel width and backspacing. As said by KPT 4.5 is your goal. 1" Lift will have some heavy rub on the plastics and fenders though.

 

This, also look into getting some OME 885x coils for the 5100s and have them at the "0" setting. You should be at 2.5 of lift on the front. It will rub, but with some trimming, it should be minimal.

Your adjustments on the 5100's are 0 .85 1.75 and 2.5. And yes you will rub the well like crazy but should not rub your ucas with 285's and 4.5 backspace. Sry to hear your selling your Spindles, i would have bought them if i still lived in Whittier. but ill never sell my spindles.

 

I've got 285's with 4.5BS wheels and 5100's set at 2.5 and I had to do some minor trimming on the plastic and a tiny bit on the bumper. Alignment is fine except for caster and no rubbing on the UCA.

 

Actually my back spacing in 4.76 with a -6 offset. It should still work without rubbing the uca right?

Its more than just "some trimming" it is extensive. Front and rear fender trimming, removing most of the fender liner, chopping the frame/cab mounts, cutting back the steel on the fender, hammering the pinchweld, installing rear axle relocation plates... all that is needed to run 285s or you will eventually rip off and samage your fender flares or cut yor tires etc.

 

And once you correct the alignment with a new uca your tires will rub every speed bump you go over... and smash int fender metal everytime you enter or exit a steep driveway at speed.

 

What rear trimming? I've never heard such A thing I've trimmed the front fenders on my truck and I barley rub now only at full lock. I do need to do the cab mount chop, but I only rub there when I go wheeling at full flex on the front. I'm sorry, I didn't say EXTREME CUTTING WILL BE REQUIRED TO RUN 285s

 

I know 2 members who use 2.5 on billies, run 285s, and have zero rubbing lock to lock. There are a few variables like BS, the type of tire, and of course the aspect ratio of it. I'm running 285/70 on 16s and by the looks & mild flexing I do I could drop down an inch and still clear everything. Now my size is roughly a 32" tire & if I went to 285/75 it would be closer to a 33" tire and I'm sure there would be some mild rubbing, but to give an accurate answer to the op's question I am going to assume you mean 285/75/16, 285/70/17, or 285/65/18, no you won't rub the UCAs with that BS but you will probably rub everything else.

 

My description is what you need to fit a tire 33" or larger that is 11.5" or wider. Without an axle relocation plate your tire will rub the front of the wheel well and the inner top edge of the fender flare requiring trimming. After the plate, you may not need to trim the fender flare or you may need to trim a tiny bit from the rear of the rear fender flare (say if you run a 285/75r17) or get a custom axle relocation plate that spaces off .5" instead of .75" that is the minimum on the generic axle relocation plates.

All this assumes you are not willing to sacrifice up travel with longer bump stops.

 

Sounds like a good reason to not waste money on new UCA's!
