Not only do I agree about people needing to not gloss over rubbing issues, I think there needs to be more specifics on tire size. 285s don't describe anything and 285/70r17 is just a size range. One companies 285/70r17 can be 32.2"x11.3" and another company could have a 285/70r17 that is 33.15"x11.81" (which mine is). So a metric description is wholly inaccurate.

That said, I do not believe lift height has anything to do with tire size fittment. A higher lift just means more compression till you rub. The wheels still stuff to the same position at full stuff unless you have changed caster angle.

Im in the middle of making the same choice, the question is what do you want! I decided to go with the 285/75/17 KM2, I like the look and am in sand and mud. The biggest downside is loss of MPG. From what I've read and looked at on other tacomas, you need a body mount cab chop with any of the 285's width. However not hard to do and very cheap, I bought my prefab plates from BAMF for $12. Got a guy to weld it for $15.
My vote go for the bigger tires now, cuz I"ll put money you'll be wanting the 285's after the first week of having the 265's.

And you still rub post chop on compression while turning if you have a uniball uca... because your tires are larger than mine and I rubbed till I put my caster over 3 degrees. You also had to trim the shit out of plastic, cut metal at fender and hammer the pinch weld with a sledge hammer. Average cost for welding a cab mount chop is about $100. Noone else is going to find someone to do it for 15 bucks.

Additionally, I cant find your tire for sale or on BFG website as that would be a 34" tire. I believe this is yet another example of why we need specificity in tire size descriptions.

I'm happy with my 265/75/16's. Had them before I got my lift and was worried they would look smaller once I lifted, but I think it looks good.
