I have a set of Ivan Stewart wheels that came with a set of tires i recently bought. the wheels are in rough shape as far as finish goes, its pretty much peeling right off and looks like shit. my question is, there is a shop near me that will sand blast or bead blast them, this will help right? they will come out smooth so i can paint them with the rustoleum metallic aluminum and they will look close to new? any input would be great. thanks guys!

I would assume so.....i've heard of people in your same predicament; bought wheels that're banged up, had 'em blasted down to bare metal, then primed/painted them. Sounds like you're headed in the right direction

thanks man! actually when i dropped them off the guy said he can also put clearcoat on them after he sandblasts them, thus making no work for me. im horrible at painting. i tried to plasti dip one and it came out like shat.. so the guy showed me a set of wheels off of a honda that he had sandblasted, and they looked good. down to just the alloy, and nice and smooth. the clearcoat process includes a hardener, and he said it comes out almost like a charcoal color, so im hoping they look nice when theyre done! i didnt know if anyone on here had ever had a set of wheels sandblasted and could share their experience.

Any powder coater in your area will have bead/sand blasting equipment. If you are on a budget they'll probably do them for around $20-$30 a wheel. But you could have them completely blasted and powder coated for around $70-$85 a wheel depending on the shop.

could you post pics after you have them done. i also have a set of ivan stewart rims but only the center is bad. i was thinking of having just the center bead blasted and then painting just the center black but not sure how they would look. cant find any pics

will def post pics of them. the reason i wanted to have them sandblasted is becuase i tried EVERYTHING to sand them down myself. the clearcoat or alloy w/e it is was chipping so there was no way to get the surface smooth with paper, and drill attachment would take weeks. the industrial sand blaster should take a couple seconds per wheel to blast them right down to bare giving a nice smooth finish. the guy i gave them to was a redneck but definitely sounded like he knew what he was talking about. so we'll see how they turn out, id hate to have to throw out the wheels, i really like the look of them on our trucks and just got a set of 285/75/16 BFG's that i want to run WITHOUT spacers... my stock offroad wheels prohibit that.

if your going to go through the trouble of unmounting the tires and media blasting them you might as well powder coat them thats what i would do. find a local place that does custom powder coating its not that much to have it done and its much nicer than the rattle can.

i always liked these wheels but, i didn't go with them due to the finish being suspect i can't wait to see them all finished.

thats what i originally wanted. and im not going to rattle can them, i suck at painting... anything. the guy that is media blasting them is also putting on clearcoat/hardener and they will come out charcoal colored. the place around me that does powdercoating wanted 100 bucks per wheel , theyre nice wheels.. but not that nice haha.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
X2 $100 bucks a wheel is pretty steep $50 to $75 per wheel is a good rate for PCing wheels

fyi most good pro paint has hardener. they all need to be mixed. sand pasting down to bare metal and then immediately painting them can turn out well. you said alloy. aluminum i assume. the should be come out good. i would buy some clear nail polish or clear touch up paint for the lug area. as soon as you see the clear coat chipped just dab some paint over it or your wheels will corrode. also change brake pads to full ceramic. the carbon dust from the cheaper pads will also corrode your wheels. looking fwrd to your pics:)

thanks for the advice! prob not going to spend a shitload of money on ceramic pads/rotors, the toyota OEM ones are pretty good i think, havent had any problems with them. does it take a long time for the brake dust to corrode them? i wash my truck all the time, so i hope they dont get too ruined too quickly.
