Skip is running less lift with 5.25" BS and stuffing his 255s into the wheelwells.
I'm running more lift with 4.5" BS and my 255s don't go into the wheelwells but have a wider stance.

You don't happen to know how much lift he has do you? And so i take it that 5.25 backspacing is the best for my amount of lift?

Skipp (XXXX) is running I think about 1" of lift in front with new bump stops to prevent the tires from going too far.
Zac808 TW member in Vegas liked how mine looked & got a set for his 2nd Gen DC with 5100s at .85" with Eibachs after PMing me a bunch.
5.25" would be a safer choice for you. Or 4.5" if you don't mind bumping the billies to .85" if you rub & want a wider stance. Ether way 7" wide is the size you want.
Some problems with 255s on 8" wheels (not enough wheel protection)
I went with the 1st Gen TRDs because of the great deal ($100) & so I could run 2 sets of tires. Commuting tires for the 280 to 350 miles/week I was doing at the time (now the tank of gas that got me to & from work for 1 1/2 week lasts over 2 months) & to have a set for when I wanted to have fun wheelin.

You can do that to just about any wheel you want depending on how hard you go. I've rashed just about every wheel I've owned, both with 265 and 285. I also sheared a valve stem off once when running the 285s.

Rocks don't give no damn! :D
