Ya think this is someone's idea of a mod, or has Michelin really had its cheese slip off its cracker?

i thought those were cut away versions to see what the internals of the tire were doing. the production ones should look like a normal tire. thats my understanding of it anyway

Ya, thats just a cut away so you can see how it works without air. It will look like a normal tire, but probably pretty spendy.

I dunno...is this just a demo run? Why would they cut away BOTH sides for just a look inside?

Ok, makes sense now...the final product will actually look like a tire!

This is called the "Tweel." It has been in R&D for years now and would be great on passenger cars for the fact that you would rarely, if ever have to change your 'tires.'

The biggest problem is they apparently ride like a brick, but I am sure they will solve this sooner or later. I have operated a skid-steer with the non-pneumatic tires before and they ride horrible(pictured above).

Been seeing them for years, may be harsh on the road, but think of how we could use them off road! Probably more negative than good?

Michelin made these tires with the sidewall of course for both the Honda Odyssey and the Nissan Quest, they called it the PAX system. The tires lasted about 20k miles and took special equipment to mount them, if you didnt want the system when you got new tires you has to buy new rims and tires. Needless to say that went over like a fart in a phone booth and Nissan, Honda and Michelin are being sued by consumers who feel they where mislead.
