Depends on what route you want to go. You can get a 3rd from ECGS already geared and send them yours or order the parts and probably pay $250-$350 for labor per diff. Also depends on how much work you do yourself.

I have rear 5.29s FS btw. :anonymous:

so did you do it yourself or have somebody do it for you? and would you recomend going to 4.56 for my truck also? I have 35,s on it dont off road it at all. kind of a pretty truck so just looking to get some better mileage and power back. and if you did have somebody do it how much would it cost?

Interesting thread. I have a 2012 (4.0L V6, 5 speed auto) running 33" tires on it with a chance of 255/85R16's (33.3" tall) in the future. I will need new ring and pinion at both ends of course and am thinking 4.10 gears. Need to do a bit more research to see if 5th gear on the trnsmission is actually overdrive. If 5th is od then I can justify a bit lower gearing like 4.27 or whatever.

As to gas mileage, I have personally seen vehicles with small motors get better mileage in other than top gear when fitted with a 6 speed manual transmission. My theory is that the engine is just a bit more efficient at a little higher rpm. But on large displacement motors (like V8's) they make lots of torque and delived best MPG when in tall overdrive. Not sure where the 4.0L V6 fits in our Tacomas..

No postings since 10/02. Since everybody seems to know way more than me about the regearing and all that good stuff... I wana ask something. 07 Tacoma 4x4 v6. I had a 3" lift and running 285/75/16 but just recently got a 6" lift and im still running my 285 . I would like to get 35's but my question is...DO I HAVE TO REGEAR IF I GO WITH 35's? And if i dont regear and still go with 35 tire im i gona cause any damage to my truck? Thanks for any advice. Also i can just stick with my 285 on 16"rim but i want to go 17"rim cuz my 16 doesnt fit without spacers, wich i dnt think is really a bad thing to have the spacers but i rather go with a 17" and no spacers. Spidertrax 1.5 will be for sale soon. Been in my truck sice i got my 6" so thats about 1month, theyre in good shape.

If you really want to bump up to 35s I'd say be 'prepared' to regear. Slap some 35s on with stock gears and see how you like it. The truck might do just fine, or it might become so much of a gas hog you want to regear, it might not have as much power as you'd like with stock gears, and so on. If I wasn't off-roading, I could easily get away with keeping the stock gears.

IMO, the biggest factor will be if the truck is manual or auto. My 2.7L manual seemed to do really well with 35s and stock gears, but I think an auto would have too much difficulty.

Im about to install my new 35s and my 6" lift next week with stock gears (4.10) on my 4 cylinder (auto). I can let whoever know how it runs compared to stock everything. I'll probably end up regearing later on after a couple paychecks ha.
