Just bought me a 2009 Tacoma and need to get new tires. The tires size is a 285/65/18. I want a A/T tire but I really don't want to sacrifice MPG with the A/T.
Any suggestions? What about All-Seasons? Any suggestions on All-Seasons vs. A/T's?

Living in Idaho means lots of snow. That would be my main reason for getting the A/T's.

BFG A/T or Goodyear Duratracs are the most common on here for A/T's

Duratracs. I've ahd them on every one of my trucks. Best tire for everything. Bit slippery in the wet but that makes them fun!

Are they heavy? Do they affect MPG much?

I've got DuraTrac. They come in C and E load. Some complain the outer wall of the C load is not as strong as BFG. If you don't plan on hauling heavy loads or extreme off road you should be fine. C load is lighter than the E load and better for gas mileage.

they are some what heavy but your gonna get that with a bigger more aggressive tire. Im about to do 285's as well so im hoping it doesnt make my mpg awful but from what i have seen it will bring it down 1-2 mpg so not to bad.

    BFG AT KO
    Goodyear Silent Armor
    General grabber AT2
    Bridgestone Dueller Revo 2
    Nokian Rotiiva AT
    and as mentioned above, Duratracs

are all decent tires with good reviews. I tried to list ones that I know of that do well with lower rolling resistance/not that aggressive of an AT and also do well in the snow. Hope that helps for a good starting point for research for ya

Also, if you don't want to sacrifice MPGs try looking into narrower options for sizes as well as lighter weight load ratings (if you don't haul/tow much)

    Right behind you. NY
    Vehicle:
    18’ F150 SCREW LB 3.5 EcoBoost
    Bilstein 5100’s (x4), 275/65/20 Cooper XLT AT3’s
Narrower tires are going to be much better in the snow! here's a comparison on sizes.

    275/65/18: width 10.83
    height 32.07

    285/65/18: width 11.22
    height 32.59

give or take .2 depending on tire tread.

Wide tires will float in snow causing you to slip. Wide tires will be best for dirt, sand and mud. A narrower tire will hold better on ice and snow.

I've had BFG A/T's and Grabber AT2's both good tires. I hear real good things about the duratrac's. They will be my next tire!!

also.. stay away from all seasons!! Junk
