i see it alot on this forum. everyone DIY's. where do you draw the line? some poor guy just let pepboys snap a wheel stud. sucks. when it comes to new tires..you rolling in 4 wheels and bald tires, and rolling back out 4 wheels with new tires?

i have 4 new wheels coming for my other car. i am rolling in the wheels. two reasons, my car is not easy to jack up and they are certain to crush my oil lines..and i have a truck to put the 4 wheels in.

my truck..i just park it with them, and say a quiet prayer. :D

I order my tires from TireRack and mount/dismount them myself then drive in to get them balanced

I didn't think getting wheels and tires installed and mounted was a challenge to some.

I just order the wheels and have them shipped to my house. Then go to Discount and they price match anyone and they order the tires and have them shipped to their store. Then I show up, wait, and leave.

    Shocker I know.

Around here, they still charge you the full price for mount/balance so I'm not breaking my back hauling the wheels in.

Sorry, ya'll must be discussing something different than I thought. I was referring to the process of getting tires removed and replaced on a vehicle.

With the tire dealers around here, there is no cost savings if you jack up, put the truck on blocks, remove all four wheels, borrow someone else's truck and haul them in, then perform the reverse.

But yes, in the remote case where I purchase a new set of wheels I would do the same. Get the wheels carry them to get tires then install on the vehicle myself. Unless the new wheels are actually for the truck doing the hauling, in which case I would again let the tire place do all the work.
