I can get a decent deal on some 2012 Rubicon stock tires. 255/75/17 BFG MT's. Measure right to about 32".

Anyone ever put these on your 2nd Gen?

I was thinking of doing this but the pic you have is of the old bfg mt's I'm pretty sure the 2012s came with the new mt's.

Some shit I got on craigslist
Do it. There's plenty of threads about the tall and skinnys (aka pizza cutters); I have them and will most likely buy them again if I wear through them. Got all 4 mounted for like $300 with 12/16th's on them. I like 'em dirty 'n used...

That's the tread that BFG puts on the OEM Rubicons. I know it's not the KM2's, its the same tread pattern as the old KM1's.

    I'm gonna roll with them.

It's the same tread pattern as the the KM1, because the old Rubi's came with KM1's stock.

I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I once heard the tires included on new vehicles is an inferior tire to the actual product you would buy sourced elsewhere. An analogy to help others understand would be like how when you buy a printer the ink cartridge or toner may only actually be filled to 40% rather a full cartridge if you bought new in the package. Like I said I don't have any proof it's just a rumor I once heard working in the tire industry as a teen. I'm sure though if there is even an ounce of truth though, the tires will suit your needs just fine.

I'd say if you can snag a deal on them do it.

the local Goodyear/dunlop dealer told me that while the dunlop AT20 is definitely a cheap tire, the ones available on the aftermarket are far superior to the OE AT20 on our trucks.

It's a fact. Check the tread wear numbers on stock tires & compare to same tire new.
That said I'm loving my 255/85/16 BFG KM2s.

They were way better. The KM2's kind of suck. I have run 6 sets of KM2's on my work trucks, and they just arent very good tires. The set of KM1's I ran lasted 37k miles on a super duty that weighed over 10k pounds, and drove about 60 miles of dirt road along with 100 miles on the highway each day. In the same conditions, I am only getting 12-20k out of the KM2's

On my last two 4Runners I've ran those tires. I loved them!! They are a little less aggressive then the standard MTs so your MPG hit will be a little less. I thought they handled well on the road. A couple years back tirerack was blowing those out for $100/tire and you could find them practically new from jeep guys on CL for $400/set. They seem to have gone up in price now that tire rack stopped carrying them for so cheap.

    Here's a pic of them on my '04 4runner

Yes sir! Again, it is a much heavier truck than the Tacoma.

My best set was 20k, the rest are all 12-14. They suck in the snow, pack in the mud, and arent great on the highway either.

I just put a set of Toyo M/T's on and like them so far. Much more quiet on the highway than the BFG's, but no mud or ice yet.

BFG is the ONLY one that makes those. They were actually designed by my local BFG dealer for the oilfield. Their engineers came out to our little town and rode around with the tire shop guys to see the conditions.

The rumor is that Toyo is coming out with one, but who knows?
