Can I Paint My Alloys Black?

You sure can plenty of members have done so and you can have them powdetcoated as well but if your on a budget do it yourself.

 

I got the inside painted black, looks good!!

 

anyone know how well it lasts? what type of paint? sanding or not to sand? rust/corrosion issues?

 

Got them done by a wheel shop, they glassbead the hole wheel paint the complete wheel and then machine the outside aluminium and then clear the complete wheel, they garanty the job for a least 5 yrs. probably longer then the the regular finish from toyota expcialy in the salty roads. I would also recomend that you get a secon set for the winter keeps them much longer.

I'm actually in the process of aquiring a second set that I'm going to do.I have considered having them done by a shop but will likely do them myself.I'm thinking all black but leaving the center cap and lugs silver.

as long as you prep the wheels the right way...........they will look good and last pretty decently too. and the thing about painting them.....you can always touch them up.

 

should i go flat or glossy? i have magnetic grey trd dc

 

that depends on the look you are going for........but im a fan of flat colors(especially flat black).....to me, they just look better, but its all up to you.

 

Flat looks great on my red truck. I made sure the hubs were painted as well and left the lugs silver so far.

Lasts great- I took it off roading and only had one spot get scraped a LIL bit. Road wear is no issue. I used duplicolor rattle cans with duplicolor sandable primer. Roughed up the surface, primered, re-sanded, primered, painted, mounted. Game over. and touch ups are easy.

 

do you have to take wheels off to do the job?

 

technically no, but it will be a lot easier and will turn out better if you have them off of the truck.

 

What he said- I painted my brake calipers still on the truck and using the rattle can I have to tape and paper the shit outta the truck and wait for no wind. I can't imagine trying to do the rims on the truck.

 

x3.....definitely take the wheels off the truck to paint them..............it will be lots easier and it will come out better also.
