Thanks, I thought this thread would be of value for you. Yeah, I'm in Arvada, west of Denver, no pits in the city limit . . .

What kind of prep did you do? And what kind of paint? I have a set of mt's on my taco and they have some age so I was thinking about painting or powder coating. Your final product turned out great.

    Thanks for the compliments.

There were not any gouges in the wheel itself, so I did not have to do any sanding a high grit to remove them, there are some in the rings, but they are going to get beat up anyway, so I skipped that.

I started with 600 on the wheels and rings, just to remove some of the oxidation that you can see in the first pic, then washed them real good like with dish soap, dried, wiped down with rubbing alcohol, taped off the holes and surfaces where the rings mount and put screws in the holes by the hub, 3-4 light coats of Rustoleum Auto Primer with 3 or so minutes between coats, let the last coat dry for 30 mins or so, then 5-6 light coats of paint, with the last one being fairly thick to give it a nice gloss, but not too much so that it runs.

The first go around I used Rustoleum uto Primer and Painter's Touch Gloss Dark Gray:

After I changed my mind on that, and curing for 2 weeks, I gave them a wipe with rubbing alcohol again, no additional primer, and then 5-6 light coats, again with the last being fairly thick of Rustoleum Metallic Graphite, and Semi-Gloss Black on the rings:

I have used "wheel" paint before and it came out very uneven an ended up with a textured finish, so I personally stay away from it, although I know others have had success with it.

Are you talking about the one the tazed and then shot a few weeks back? Yeah that is pretty fucked up, now they are trying the guy that did it with a few felonies. Doesn't change what happened, but hopefully make the point that this shit won't stand.

That's some great info. Any particular reason you didn't use clear?
