whats the weight difference between steel and alloy

im looking at new wheels.
procomp 1069 16x8s to be exact

ive seen some steel wheels that are similar looking but cheaper.

can my 2.7L with a 3inch lift tell the difference between 16x8 steels and 16x8 alloys?

 

Most definitely alloys will be a bunch lighter. 10+lbs per wheel easy. Thats all weight your truck has to turn (rotational weight) the heavier the wheels and tires, the more energy required to turn them. There's nothing wrong with steel wheels though.

 

so for my 2002 2.7 i should probably look at Alloys? I just want to make sure i don't stress the engine too much. i also make trips to Tahoe so I don't really want to sacrifice any power for the climbs and hills.

 

Your truck came from the factory with steel wheels? Your not going to hurt anything with steel wheels, but you might notice a slight improvement in fuel economy and power with alloys? Weather or not its worth the money is up to you. Most people get alloys because in their opinion they look better. Performance isn't the most important thing usually. That being said you won't find a race car of anykind that has steel wheels.
