1st gen alloys on 2012

I posted these pics in the 2nd gen section but since I'm so proud of my hard work bringing these old wheels back to new I figured I would post here also. I know there are a few people interested in these for their 2nd gen. I like the look, definately an upgrade from steelies.

How did you deal with the TPMS? I want these but I dont know what to do about the TPMS. Dont the first gen wheels stick out a little more than 2nd gen stock wheels? How much did you pay for those?

Just finished up my TPMS "pipe bomb". I bought straps for the sensors but decided not to mess with them. The tire guy didn't think they would work. I will have that light off as soon as the glue dries good! Yes they do stick out a little bit more just enough to fill out the wheel well. My neighbor gave me the wheels off of his 2000 Tundra TRD off road.

Glad to help Brian. I was thinking of starting this thread since I started the cross-Gen trend, but I've been working 55 hour weeks. JLink is also running them on his '10
Tommy as to the TPMS Zac & I both ignore the light on the dash because we left them in the stock wheels.

My '11 on 1st Gen TRDs with 255/85/16 BFG KM2s (Zac also went with these tires).




245/75/16 Dungflops on stock steelies.

I think they look good & like the 3/4" less back space and got them for only $100.

Nice post Randy!

Ill have to take some more pictures of mine. But yea they are great wheels available at a great price. And as far as the tpms light on the dash.. Doesn't bother me and I really thought it would. I have my steering wheel tilted up a little bit so now the light isn't even in my view.

Randy, you pretty much convinced me on getting these rims. Going with the same tire size as soon as a lift is possible. Should be getting my rims in a few weeks. Was definatly hard finding them...

So Randy Im not really knowledgeable on wheel sizes. So does the different backspacing make the wheel stick out more or is it closer to the frame? And what would be the easiest way to disable the TPMS. I cant stand lights on the dash.

To disable the light you can either put a piece of black tape over the light on the dash, or pull the gauge cluster out as if you're going to swap LEDs, and just pull the tpms light. It's really not that noticeable though.. I can't stand lights either but I can't even see it with the wheel tilted up slightly and my scangauge mounted in front of the dash.

Or if you have tpms sensors and don't want to put them in the wheel you can make a PVC pipe "bomb" and put them in there and put a valve on it to pressurize them and fool the system.

I was thinking of the "bomb" version. It shouldnt be that hard. First gen wheels are cheap as well. BTW can you still use a HiLift wheel strap with 1st gen wheels?

I think the 1st gen alloys look great on all the Tacomas.


Toyota has done a good job with the Tacoma in that the factory wheels are all pretty damn decent looking.

They will stick out 3/4" farther. The lower the number the more they stick out.
Like Josh said the TPMS Bomb is the easiest way to trick/disable the system.

Here is my creation. So far it's holding air. 3" PVC, flat caps primed and cemented, rubber valve stem. I wrapped the sensors in towels to keep them from banging around in my tool box. After I glued the caps on I let it dry for 24 hours, the light reset itself and has stayed off since.

lol @ "look great on all the tacomas". these are the cheapest stock tacoma aluminum rim you can find. even the 16" 4runner rim that looked like the 15" 95-00 tacoma rim is worth more tan the starfish stocks.

I had a set of these on my tacoma at one point...ill have to find a pic.

Don't see why they wouldn't.. But idk because I've also never seen a reason to use the wheel strap. If I need to lift a wheel up, it's because the tire is flat so the strap doesn't help. I use my hi lift right on the sliders.
