Difference in Manufactures Tire Sizes ???

I thought that I had read enough threads on the site that I figured I could install 265/70/17 tires on my 2012 TRD Sport Double Cab, 17" alloy wheels. No lift kit installed. I was researching prices on Tire Rack. I went through the purchase process without inputting credit card information just to see what the total delivered cost would be. When I used Dick Cepek Mud Country LT265/70-17, I received a message that these tires will not fit on my vehicle and I would need to install a 3" lift. When I used Goodyear Duratrac LT265/70-17, I received no message. My current tire is 265/65-17 Dueler ATs. Dick Cepek measures 31.9" and DuraTrac measures 31.7". The Tacoma World Tire Size calculator shows 31.61" for the 265/70-17. All three are close. Any ideas on the differences and why Tire Rack would show the message just for the Dick Cepek's? Could just be a system error on their part?

 

255/70r17s fit and are a true 32 so I don't see your 265, which is barely wider not fitting. You're fine.

even if you're "not" some very minor trimming would be the most, but I don't even see that

 

That is what I think from all the reading I have done. Is yours lifted?

 

Some tires to run larger than others. Tread matters as well. Duratracs in a 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 will often slightly rub, especially on the front mud flaps. I had to remove my front mud flaps to run 265/75/16 Duratracs prior to my lift. They rubbed on every full clock turn.

It's the reason some tires in those size will look tiny on a 3" lift and others don't.

 

Looks like I have plenty of room fwd and aft of the tire. The close part appears to be on the inside at a full turn.

 

My Tacoma was lifted, my Pickup is not.


If they're the tires you want, get em. That is, if you're willing to have the possibility of removing mudflaps or trimming a little plastic. But you're not going to be doing a CMC with 265/70s I'm pretty sure ha

 

Just put Goodyear Duratrac 265/70/17s on and they fit perfect. No rubbing at all.
