45's vs. Recommended 65's

New to TW,,,Had LT245/75/R16 AT's installed tonight. The previous owner had the same size on there but they were cupping and had un-even wear, so I had them replace to match the same size. Anyone see problems with this tire size down the road?

Uneven wear can be caused by many things and I'll venture to say with most people it could be driving aggressively/turning sharply, improper tire inflation, not rotating tires. Could also be the alignment too, might want to have that checked so you didn't waste your money on brand new tires because they can be ruined quickly.

245/75r16 is what came from on my Tacoma (brand new). Many like wider and or taler tires for that agressive look. But your size tire weighs less and will give you the best gas mileage id properly inflated. Best traction and more ground clearance beg for more tire, but then you gt into buying longer shocks, taller springs, cab mount chop, and the list goes on, and on.

I think you can go to 265/75R16 without mods, or 235/85R16 if you like the tall & Skinny look without mods, but bigger than this and you need to start triming stuff to avoid rubbing.

Thanks! That puts my mind at ease. I was really hoping that others had done this also. I really do like the look of the 45 tire size as opposed to 65, which was a little beafier. Like you said the 45 seems to have more clearance.

As for the alignment, I will have that done asap to avoid any unnecessary wear and tear. I'm also thinking there may be a bearing going out up front since there is a faint grinding noise (or what have you) as im rolling down the street. I can only hear it once per rotation on passenger side...That may also be part of the un-even wear on the last set of tires.

AZ, I'm happy to see that someone else likes the look of the 245's (with a stock suspension). I'm looking at the Duratracks and they don't come in my stock size of 265/70/16. The closest size is the 245/75/16, which is a bit smaller. Most guys here, from what I've read, much prefer the bigger option of the 265/75/16 because "it fills the wheel well better". To me though, they look a little too big with the stock suspension.

I am running 245/75-16 as three season tires and 245/70-75 for winter tires...nothing wrong with the 245 size...might go with 265/75-16 for three season when I need to replace.

Awesome! Ya, I'm definately happy w/ the 45 skinny goodyear wranglers(walmart). A buddy of mine out here has the larger 65's and he has had some rubbing here n there when he runs it hard in some terrain.

Thanks all for the feedback. I don't drive a lot, but I'm checking the fuel economy. I will post once I get down to 1/2 tank along with the tire spec.

Yeah I'm looking to go 245/75/16 BFG AT's when I use up my Dunlop AT20's some more - probably will run them through summer and put on the BFG's for start of winter. It is good to see that you guys actually like this tire.

I was starting to get a freaking complex from reading all these damn posts of everyone basically shunning the 245 tire size.

MPG's are a big deal to me as well, just want a better tire.

I run the 245 steelies in the winter and now 265-70's on TRD OR wheels in the summer I like the smaller skinny tire for snow.

I really like the tires. They are the Goodyear Wranglers from walmart, aggressive look but soft as any on pavement. No vibration, no noise.

As far as size, haven't had any weird problems at all. I guess I was just excited to have a new truck. Worried at every turn, especially when they are expensive decisions.

I have had two people ask me if the truck was lifted. The smaller tire gives the illusion of a really small lift I guess since it doesn't fill up the wheel well as much. No complaints. Thanks for the comments.

Mine came with the 45's couldn't help but think it looked like a parts delivery truck with the smaller tires. Upgraded to 265/75-16's and not only does it look better but my speedo is now accurate!

How did they affect your odometer? I'm hearing the odo's are off from the factory too.

These are the tires in the image. In terms of $$, I suppose the 265 is an upgrade, more tire/more money.

These are E rated, soft on pavement and I would say an upgrade maybe from delivery truck style P rated tires, since they are A/T/aggressive.

Like I said, no complaints. Depends on what you like and what you want to spend. Balance-no pun intended

Its not the design of the tire, its the size of the tire. Your E-rated 245's are harder on fuel mileage and performance than the larger P rated 265 AT tire IMO, just cuz they weigh more. I personally dont care for the way the trucks look with the smaller tire configuration. And if you leave the black top for trail riding or rough roads more ground clearance is never bad.
