Well I plasti dipped my wheels today

Thought I'd give it a shot since I did my emblems last weekend. Overall I'm glad how it turned out. Had the most trouble getting it to thick inside the little recesses at the top of the spokes on the off road wheels. There are a few minor blemishes but u can't see them from farther than about 2 feet. They look better now IMO than they did after the tire shop scratched them all to pieces. Overall very happy with the outcome and its a cheap fix. My center caps are back on now they weren't dry yet when I took this photo

Thanks wasn't as bad as I thought had my girl friend running the hair dryer between coats lol. really made the process move along pretty quick put 4 coats per wheel, should be enough I think

how many cans did you go through total?

 

Bout 3 might have been more when they got close to empty I used new can just in case it blew bubbles when it got close to empty

Lol yeah gonna order some soon I painted the factory ones they look fine for now but sure an impact will ruin that

 

They look good! Nice thing about the dip is if you do ruin it on your lugs you can just spray again and it blends right in. No need to mask anything off.

nice look! I am planning on doing the same to my 2012 crome clad wheels. I'm thinking about going with either Black or Gunmetal Gray with my Black truck..

 

I wanted the gunmetal, I'm sure it would have looked better but I never could find it besides online

 

i think the black looks awesome on your truck. I just don't want all black, want some contrast so that is why i'm thinking Gunmetal. The black with your gray looks great.

 

Keep us posted how long they last. I did mine about 3 weeks ago and there's already a huge bubble on each of the two back wheels.

Your rims look great man! This past Thanksgiving I did my 15" wheels and center caps with the black and they came out beautifully. I did 6 coats (only 4 on the inner reveal) with 3 cans. After 2 months they still look great and no chipping yet. I think you'll really like the durability. I don't think you can ever go wrong with more than 4 coats.

 

I've had it on my wheels now for almost a year with no problems. You have to make sure they are super clean before you dip them. Also follow the directions on the can, especially for the temp.

 

Nice. Dipped mine and left it for about 6 months until I had a tire fixed and they thrashed it. I peeled all the dip off all four wheels in about 15 minutes. Easy!

Just an update on my wheels. The plasti dip has held up far better than I expected. It hasn't been on but a few months, but its been through some nasty mud. And several pressure washings, and I hadn't had any chips yet. My biggest complaint is that they are hard to keep the dirt off. It's like it clings to it and doesn't spray off as easily. Anyone know anything that helps clean them? Seems I heard simple green or mean green works but I could be wrong. Anyone know of anything??
