What will I be rubbing on and what will I need to modify? Should I go with 285/70/16s instead?

Since you didn't specify what vehicle you will be placing this setup on....you will be rubbing on everything. Something with less backspacing would probably be a start.....

3 inch OME lift kit, rear diff breather mod, cb install, sliders, brute force fab front end.
With those tires you'll still rub on the fender wells regardless of the backspacing. A razor blade, wire snips, or heat gun will be your friend.

You 3" lift has zero impact on rubbing. Please read previous posts as this has been covered ad nauseum. You want a 285 width 33" tire? You need a cab mount chop and lots of trimming.
