Tire shop won't fix my tire

I went to America's Tire Company today to have them remove a screw that was stuck in my tire. They took a look at the tire and realized they were over 10 years old. They said they won't touch my tire due to liability issues since its so old. I have BF Goodrich A/T and they have plenty of tread on them.

Is there a way to remove the screw and patch the hole or are my tires too old and I should replace all four tires?

 

Well... I won't comment on age of tires.

I'm sure you can find another shop to patch/plug it though.

But yes, it is technically possible to patch/plug your tire.

 

There is a lot of reasons that a shop can't touch tires. If you do it yourself though just go get some plugs from the store. They will come in a kit with a reamer, an installer, some plugs, and glue. These are not the worlds greatest plugs. I would definitely look into some new tires though. They are old.

I wouldn't drive on 10y/o tire but like said, find a non national shop and u will def find someone to do it

 

The reason they won't fix your tire, if they didn't tell you, is after the 10 year mark the oils in the tire have broken down to the point where it's become unsafe. That's just a general guide line that they follow, not necessarily true for every single tire, but better safe than have a tyre blow up in your face!

 

I have changed and fixed close to 20 tires every summer. I live on a farm and we patch all of our own tires. I can break down, patch and remount a car or impliment tire in under 15 minutes. Yes i have timed myself. All we use is a bead breaker, 2 standard tire irons, lube and a dead head.

 

Thanks for all of your inputs! You're right, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll probably get a new set of Duratracs. America's Tire Company quoted me $870 mounted and balanced.
