Wheel and Tires

Hello everyone,

I just bought a Tacoma and the Wheel and Tires are now size 235/75/15. I would like to change the tires to size 31x10.5R15. I looked at the label on the Driver Side Door and it says 10.50R15. What does the 10.50R15 mean? Is it the recommendation size? Since the Wheel is 15, can I change the tires to size 31x10.50R15? I need your help please.

Thanks

Newby

What year and trim is your Tacoma? Also, is it lifted? We'd be happy to check the fitment for you.

It's 96 Tacoma Ext Cab SR5 V6 4x4. It's not lifted. It looks regular to me. The Rims are seem original with the truck but they are painted in black now.

I'll keep the overall diameter of the wheel, 15 as I mentioned above, can I keep this diameter by going with a wider and taller tire? According to the label on the Driver Side Door, the recommendation is 10.50R15, isn't it? Please give me the Pro and Con on the wider and taller size.

Yes, it looks like some models in 96 came stock with optional 31x10.50R15 tires. These should fit like a glove. Running a taller tire will give you some additional clearance off road and it will help fill your wheel wells. Con would be less MPG than you are probably getting now.

Ok, good. Thanks for your subjection. I'll take the 31x10.50R15. I like it best.
