Getting some new tires on my stock 17" rims. I wanted to hear y'alls opinions on the look and performance of the Toyo's and Cooper's. I drive mostly on the highway, but travel on dirt roads and muddy trails quite often. I want an aggressive looking tire that performs on the road and in the rain, but doesn't sacrifice too much mpg. I'm leaning towards the Cooper at3's because they will be a bit less expensive. Would love to see some pictures if you have any.
    Thanks!

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
Toyo AT2's are pretty aggressive and good looking tire. Heard nothing but good things about them.

I have the Cooper AT/3 and I love them. Huge upside over the Rugged Fails. Great wet/dry traction plus they look cool. I don't know much about Toyo so I may be a little biased.

We got some Toyos 3 weeks ago and already put about 300 dirt miles on them and 1000 road miles. Great tire. Air down really nice also. No chunking on sharp rock and gripped really well in the rain off road also. I have BFG M/Ts on my LT taco and these have really impressed me and might get a set for my next rig.

Between those 2, I'd get the Toyos. You should also add the Hankook Dynapro to that list. I have not had good luck with Coopers lately (had issues with 3 sets). I've always liked Cooper but after recent experiences, I won't own another set or recommend them to others.

didnt know you had any issues with your coopers, last time i read you were really liking them. Im still running my atp's as my daily drivers and still am very pleased with them. dont know if i would do any aggressive offroading with them on, but that is why i have a second set of wheels and tires to swap over to when i go riding. that and i also decided to save some weight and increase comfort on road by getting the p series atp's. what kind of issues have you had pugga?

Those look just like the Toyos that I just got. Except mine are P265/75/16s. Getting them mounted tomorrow also....then planning on doing some light off roading tomorrow as well :D

I'm in this same boat. I had these Cooper AT3's on my last Taco:
And I loved them. They hardly showed any signs of wear. Had low noise, drove great in the rain, highway and dirt, and I think they look bad ass.
With all that said, I've been eyeing the Toyo AT2's mainly because of all the good things I have heard about them, and also the 65k warranty.I think the look good too.
I can get the Toyo's in 265-70-17 for about $20-25 more each, than the same size Cooper.
    Still haven't decided yet.

My dad had a set of Cooper Discoverer H/T's that he could not get to balance. He did try road force balancing but that didn't work either. I had a set of Cooper Discover ATR's that Cooper actually warrantied because all 4 of them showed signs of splitting 1" from the wheel, all the way around the wheel, looked like a really deep dry rot crack but it was really deep. When Cooper warrantied the ATRs, I replaced them with AT3s. They wandered horribly, they were the worst handling tires I've had. I sold them off, couldn't stand them. Both the ATR and AT3 did get louder with age, not bad, but noticeable. Traction-wise, all the Cooper tires have always performed well but all the other headaches have driven me from buying another set.

I was liking them initially but that changed after a little bit, unfortunately :(

I put the toyo's in 285/70/17 on my truck about 4000 miles ago & they've been great so far.low noise, ride good, handle well dry or wet (we've had a real wet summer so far), show little signs of wear so far & I haven't seen much loss of mpg's, seems like I'm still using the same amount of gas per week as the stock tires.

Put the new Toyo Open Country AT2s on my truck today (P265/75/16). They looked too shiny, so I had to knock some of the new off of them.

They did fine in 4Hi today. Never had to switch to 4Lo or lock up...but to be fair, my stock Rugged Fails handled the same terrain without issue as well.

I'm thinking of getting the Toyo AT2's to replace my worn out Toyo MT's. I'm looking at a 4 ply. I'm not sure how reliable a 4 ply tire is though. My MT's are 10ply. I mostly drive freeway and offroading is sadly, pretty rare and light. So what ply did you guys go with for your tires?

What load rating are people running on both the AT2 and AT3? I have seen varying posts. Looking for a mainly highway use tire with little off roading here and there.

Hmmm tough decisions. Been looking at these in 285/70/17. The Toyo in a P rating weighs in at 48 pounds and according to discounttirezone.com coopers in load E are 49 pounds.

I just put the Cooper Discoverer ATP's on and like them a lot. I drive moderate off road plus the truck is my DD. My buddy just mounted his 2nd set of Toyo Open Country's and he swears by them. All personal preference imo. Good luck

Thread revival. Putting either Toyo Open Country AT2's or Cooper AT3's on our 4Runner Trail Edition tomorrow. Either tire will be P285/70r17. Looking for some recent feedback on these tires. Living in NY, we have snow, rain, ice etc. 90% highway/10% off-road.
Tire guy was also offering the Firestone Destination AT, i know nothing about that tire.

Any recent input, especially after last winter would be great! Thanks!
