i'm utterly confused. lots of info here, perhaps too much. i am shopping for rims on SummitRacing.com.

I like the look of the stock size rims with 265/70/17 but i want different rims.

if you search on tirerack by model, they give you different rims and different widths. what gives?

when shopping on Summit, it seems i need to know:

• diameter (17", got it)
• wheel width
• wheel bolt pattern
• backspacing
• offset
my truck is a 2010 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Sport 4x4 long bed

HELP!

Probaly like 5.5" with some positive offset. . A 0" offset, 4.5" BS wheel usually widens the stance just right. Some like wider, but on a sec gen these wheel specs are great.

so from that referenced post, i have:

TRD Sport Alloy Wheels:
17x7.5, +30 mm offset, 5.5" backspacing, 6x5.5" bolt pattern, 108 mm hub bore

• diameter 17"
• wheel width 7.5"
• wheel bolt pattern 6 x 5.5"
• backspacing 5.5"
• offset +30mm
i assume hub bore = center bore?

Yes, the 108mm bore realy doesnt matter since most rims are lug centric and not hub centric. You can order them hub centric though, just cost alot more.

GOT IT

I like what you said about widening the stance. The plan is the 265/70/17 tires and new rims.

So you are saying change the backspace from 5.5 to 4.5, thus pushing the rims out 1” on each side, right?

Has it been proven that the tires I want won’t rub if i push them out 1”? I don’t plan to do any heavy off-roading, so as long as they don’t rub under normal driving it’s okay.

My tires are on their last licks, I think they will need to be replaced in ½ year.

You should be fine. Might have to remove or trim the front mud flaps. Plenty of folks running that set up with no issues.

Here's an old pic of mine back before it was lifted: 16x8 wheels with 4.5 backspace, 265/75/16's (same basic diameter as 265/70/17's), no lift.

Interesting, what rubs? The bottom of the mud flap, and when you say trim, you mean cut a little off the bottom?

Or does it rub along the fender where they attach to the body, thus ripping them off?

Well, you will have to see what rubs and take it from there. I removed my flaps as soon as I got it home so I can't say for sure what to trim. Most just remove them. I had a very slight rub when compressed on the fender. It was never that bad though and I lifted it shorty there after.

thanks dude, you've been more than helpful. it all makes sense now.

next, i have to figure out that OE tps thing... i plan to buy the rims online, and then the tires at the tire store. i assume they just switch over the sensors?

I believe if you are going from an alloy wheel to alloy wheel they should fit. And yes, the tire shop can switch them over.
