Okay so options would be .. With 3" lift
    17" with 0 offset 285/70 Tire
17" rim with -12 mm offset with 265/75 Tire

Which would i have less rubbing.

My buddy has 285/70 with -12 mm offset and he says his tires stick out too.

Im just a little confused on which set up to use.

Not too confused I think. Nearly the same height and the offset compensates for the inch of width. Depending upon the mfg, as MFG actual specs are a lil different, I imagine they would have the same potential to rub. The wider one with the offset may catch a trim more at full compression in the front, but how often does that happen with IFS.

What's the width of the rim?
    8" wide 0 offset is 4.5" backspace
    8.5" wide 0 is 4.75"
    8.5" wide -6 is 4.5"
    9" wide 0 is 5"
    9" wide -12 is 4.5"

More backspace holds the wheel in further. I'm trying to find a 17x8 with 4.5 backspace and 285s or bust if lifted! I have 265s and regret it greatly!

    255/85-16

    taller
    easier to fit

Seriously though, 265/75 will fit stock. You don't even need a lift.
285s are just as popular around here and you will likely end up having to trim some even with a 3" lift if you're going to be flexing out your suspension at all.

It's all personal choice. Look at your needs. What do you need to drive on and over and how tall of a tire do you need? What tread patter do you need? Once you've picked the tire that best suits your driving terrain and style then choose a lift that is fitting to both.

EDIT: Wait, do you mean 265/75-17 or 265/70-17?

No. Get a -12 offset. It will help avoid rubbing

First number (265)/25.4 will give you your WIDTH.

Multiply that by the second number as a fraction (0.75) will = the sidewall.

Then multiply the sidewall by 2 (because there's two of them).

And finally add the wheel height (17) and you will have HEIGHT.

Now you can do it yourself for the rest of your life
