Does anyone have any experience/knowledge about this size tire? I'm finding that they are about .50" inch shorter than the P285/75R16 and they don't affect your speed, gas mileage and gears as much.

    Thoughts?

Can't comment on the 285. But I run 235/85/16 during the winter. Mine are a Canadian tire specific goodyear tire that's similar to the duratrac.

They fit on a stock truck an full the wheel wells nicely. My mpg went down from stock, but I'm assuming thy would still be better than the 285.

I like the ride. More sidewall to soak up bumps. Don't track quiet as well as the 265/70/16 stock size.

My offroad use for them is mostly limited to snow covered gravel and deactivated logging roads.

I was definitely happy with how they performed. The extra ground clearance was appreciated. Even lifted I would still run this size. Definitely a tall skinny fan.

Were you actually able to find a 235/85R16 tire that's P-rated?? I've never seen a tire in that size carrying less than a E-load rating.

Mine are e rated. I should say my summer stock siZe are also e rated. So the ride comparison is a bit bias.

They ride as nice as stock from what I remember. (The 235's I mean).

That's because the snow fills in all the potholes in the winter :D

Thanks for the input on these. I'm asking as I put a 3" front 1"back spacer/block lift on the truck and wanted a bigger tire. Only do very light off road stuff for the most part. I have read that going to 285s really hurts gas milage, speedometer reads and gears. I found the 235s by accident and found they affect everything way less. Considering changing to those. Thanks again as your information was helpful.

255/85/16 or 255/80/17 are also options if you wanted something as tall as a 285 but wider than a 235.

    NO PROBLEM

It's becoming a popular size recently. Many say that it is the ideal size for wheeling. (not as great in mud, but who likes mud...) It will change some speedometer readings, etc if you wanted full disclosure. I plan on just getting a Ultraguage or Scangauge when I get my 255's and calibrate it to read my MPH.

No pics but I have 235/85/16 for winter tires for better traction and I've been very happy with them. They get better mileage than my 265/75/16 summer BFG's. (both are 10 ply)

the 285/75R16 is quite popular here in the desert on the Gen 2 tacomas, but even with a 2" lift you have rubbing when the tire is stuffed up into the wheel well and turning. With the perfect wheel offset this is not too bad but only a cab mount chop will eliminate the problem for good. I did not want this much drama with my '12 Tacoma and settled for 265/75R16 Dura-Tracs. I am happy with them in rocks and loose stuff and they climb really well. The bigger 285's are also heavier which hurts acceleration and braking nearly as much as the diameter increase.

A good compromise is the 'tall and skinny' route and I am saving for some 255/85R16's. Not many tires in this size, but the Cooper ST and BFG KM2 are available. I may investigeate the 235/85R16 but my whaeels are 8" wide and this is max for the 255/85 so a no-go fror the 235/85.

I am glad to see people at least checking out somehing besides the "fatty" 285's. They all have their place, but the skinnies definitely shine in a lot of applications.

So what would be the best option for mostly pavement driving as far as comfort/gas mileage?

on road best mileage.. probably a P245/75/16 or P245/70/17 tire will get the best mileage. A p rate 265/70/16 or 265/65/17 won't be far behind mileage wise...

Unfortunately looks and offroad ability dont really go hand in hand with mileage and ride... defeinitely some good compromises in the 265 series though...

P-rated and H/T tread pattern. Michelin would be a great place to start.

Please educate me... What is H/T? I am looking into going from a mud terrain to an all terrain but would like the most comfortable/quietest ride...I never go off road but like the look of an aggressive tire with a 5.5" lift.
