Got 4 new Duratracs (265/70/17) on new Ultra Maverick wheels yesterday.

One tire was out of round, so is going back to the factory. Luckily, Discount tire had an extra on hand and put sold me that while I returned my ordered one.

When I got home, and after they had cleaned up the wheels, I noticed two spots on just one of the tires, where the rubber on the sidewall looks loose and crumbly, and some of the sidewall is chunked.

Is this covered under factory warranty easily? Hoping I can send it back and that they would pay for mounting/balancing as well??

DT is usually good with swapping things that are defected. Did you get the insurance on the tires? I always do even though its like $20 per tire but its come in handy enough for me to buy the insurance every time.

You need to take those back ASAP. No way I would roll with any tire with that sidewall. It looks as if they have been sitting for a while and maybe rotted or rubbed from the tire racks when they try and shove them in to fit more. Anyways the sooner you take it back the easier it will be to replace. Discount is pretty good about making you a happy customer if your not satisfied as long so..

Yeah, take the tire back ASAP. The longer you wait, the more leverage they have to blame it on you ("offroading damage").

Speculation: some oil or solvent dripped on the tire while in storage.

Ohhh okay now that makes sense. From your first post it sounded like you bought them through DT not just had them installed there. Trucks looking good!!

I bought a set a few years ago and 3 out of 4 tires were out of round. I took them to a shop to have them trued and discount tire refunded me 80 bucks

What a PITA! Businesses selling tires should check them before shipping them to customers. Rotting or chunked tires should not reach the customer imo.
