Will wheel offset help tire clearance ?

Hey guys, I am thinking about replacing my stock 265/65/17 tires for some 265/70/17 Goodyear, Wrangler All-Terrain Adventures. I am also replacing my stock wheels which I understand has an offset of plus 15 to plus 25. I am not sure of the exact stock offset. However, the new wheels I want are still 17” and have a zero offset.


My concern is by increasing the tire sizes from 265/65 to 265/70 will there be a clearance problems?
Secondly if there is any problem should the wheel with a zero offset help?

Thanks for your reply and to answer your question; My truck is a 2013 Tacoma TRD Sport 2 door Access Cab. It has the Stock 17" wheel and came with 265/65/17 Bridgestone tires.

I wanted to upgrade the tires to All Terrain and also get the Dick Cepek DC2 wheels but those wheels had an off set of -12 and I was told to use these wheels on my truck it would need to be lifted or leveled. I don’t want to do a lift at this time. So I found some wheels at Pep Boys that look very similar to the DC2, they are; Pep Boys 8x17 ProLine MA 1211 that has a zero (0) offset.

My first question (concern) is tires, keeping the 17" stock wheels and up grading the tires only from 265/65 to 265/70 any issues?

Secondly, if I change my stock 17” wheels for the Pep Boys wheels with the zero offset will this cause any problems, future damage, harm in any way?

Finally will the 265/70/17 tires and Pep Boys wheels with 0 offset work 100% on my truck?

The 265/70-17 (31.6" tall) tire size is the maximum size you'll want to run with stock suspension but it will work with the factory wheels (17x7.5 EET+30) as well as the 17x8 ET0 wheels you noted. The 17x8 ET0 wheels will sit about 1.5" further out towards the fender when compared to where the factory wheels sit now which means you may have to trim the mud flaps with the 265/70-17 tires.

Assuming the calculations above are correct, I would agree that pushing your wheel outward 1.5" creates the likelihood that you will get some tire rub when nearing full turn. Have your dremmel ready.
